Do not buy
This combo is not good, I tried to put on another line instead of the one it came with and it broke. Do Not Buy!

Good name brand outfit. I own a spinning rod by this company and have used it for 50 years.
This is for my 12 yr old grandson who is quite a fisherman.

Not worth the effort or cost
Buy a higher end adult Garcia, this one is billed for kids to learn but after using it myself, I think an adult real is much, much easier. They tried to add a tangleless feature to prevent backlash, but it still tangles every single cast. Even as an adult, I couldn't keep it from tangling when turning the backlash feature off.

Pole is good but reel is garbage and does not work properly.

Anti backlash reels don’t work
These reels are advertised as helping beginners avoid backlashes. It did nothing to help with backlashes. The reels are trash and a waste of money.

Buy An Actual Baitcaster
I bought this on a whim. Have been wanting a baitcaster since I was younger, but I didnt want to have too deal with the backlash. (Birdnest)The day after I purchased it, I returned it. The anti backlash feature really limits this baitcaster combo. You might as well get an actual baitcaster. I bought the abu garcia black max combo baitcaster and rod. Sure to get birdnest for a beginner but there are tutorials on youtube I have found that shows you how to clear a birdnest in 1min or less. Pretty straight forward.Definitely would recommend not getting this combo, unless you plan to use it for 1 day to understand how a baitcaster works and return for a swap the next day or so.-Product is limited on casting length.-Anti backlash works 99% of casts thrown.
