Self Ship

It is the customer's responsibility to ensure that the items that they purchase are not prohibited or restricted by their local Customs authority. You can refer to the following resources to check the current regulations and any future updates. This information should not be considered exhaustive.

If the item is delivered with an invoice or packing list, then that relevant information will be reflected in your Self Ship order. If there is no information included with the item, then Desertcart will define the value and description at its sole discretion. This information cannot be changed. In rare cases Desertcart may contact you to confirm the accurate description and/or value.

First, let’s get to know each other. We know you love shopping. As for Self Ship, we love to deliver shopping from around the world to your doorstep. That’s pretty much who we are. For namesake, you can also call us Self Ship. You need PRO membership to use this feature.

After your order has been received you will see for a charge for Self Ship. You will be able to see the detailed charge in your order history. The Self Ship fee will be based on the greater of the gross or volumetric weight of the item. This will be verified by Desertcart when the item is received from the retailer.

Yes, all applicable customs fees will be charged with the Self Ship fee. You will be able to see the detailed charges in your order history.

Self Ship will register your items in your account within 24 hours, excluding weekends, and you will receive a notification thereafter. You will be given an estimated delivery window (EDD) after the item has been registered and this will be updated in your order history. This is only an estimate and should not be interpreted as a guarantee.

It is the customer's responsibility to verify the authenticity, quality, size, features, availability, returns policy, and all other details of the item before placing their order for delivery to Self Ship. Firstly contact the original retailer and obtain confirmation from them that the item can be returned and complete whatever forms or process they require. Subsequently contact the Desertcart customer experience team and share the retailer's return confirmation and completed forms (if required). You will need to pay a Self Ship admin fee of USD 25.00 per return plus the international return shipping charges. The return will be arranged once these charges have been paid.

Any refund for the item will be determined by the original retailer and you should coordinate directly with them. The Self Ship fees are non-refundable.

You should contact the Desertcart customer experience team and we will guide you through the process. Please retain the packaging that the item was delivered in and share photos of the damaged item and packaging to Desertcart if/when requested. Any imperfection or cosmetic damage to the external packaging alone is not considered as item damage. Any damage must be reported to Desertcart within 3 days of delivery. In the event that the item damage is attributed to Desertcart, it's liability is limited to a maximum of USD 100.00 per order.

This is also subject to import regulations and restrictions.
The products listed on the website are sourced from international merchants and are usually not stored in any of our distribution centers.

Delivery times can vary based on the seller and various other reasons(public holidays, country of origin, etc.). They are calculated based on how fast the merchant usually delivers the item to our hub, and transit times from our international hubs to your country. We try to provide our best estimate of an item's estimated delivery date when you add an item to your cart. You can also filter our products by delivery estimate depending on how quickly you need it.

Some of our items have an "Expedited Delivery" option, which means that they will usually be delivered faster than regular items for an additional fee. You can see the delivery estimates and fees by adding an item to your cart.

Most couriers have an option for you to collect your package from their offices or arrange for self-collection if you are in an area where the courier does not have a service.
You can return most items for store credit or get them exchanged within 14 calendar days of the delivery date if they are still in their original packaging.

At Desertcart, all our products are unused and in their original packaging. However, due to manufacturer or logistics errors and defects problems may occur. We will do our very best to resolve your issue as soon as possible.

Some of our products are shipped out with an international warranty, so if there is any manufacturer fault in your shipment, please contact us and we will advise you on the next step. If however, the defect is from our end, we will accept your product and exchange it for a new one.

If you are unsatisfied with your purchase for any reason, or it did not present itself to you as advertised, Desertcart will issue you a full refund or store credit for the product, provided that it is returned to us in new condition and its original packaging. We'll also pay the return shipping costs if the result is of our error.

Items such as undergarments and personal grooming products cannot be returned and refunded if opened and used.

Requesting a return is easy. Just note that you can return an item within 14 calendar days from the day you have received the item. You may get in touch with us through our 24 hours live chat support or you may contact us at +971 524 5555 from 9 AM - 9 PM except for Fridays. Once we receive your request, we will arrange the collection of the item(s) and our courier partners will call you to schedule the pick up at your most convenient time.

Refunds will be processed as soon as the item is received by us. Refunds normally may take 5-10 business days to show on your account depending on your bank's refund process.

Desertcart Assistant

Assistant is a shopping app that enables users to buy a product from online retailers with the tap of a button. You need PRO membership to use this feature.

Separate to the DC Assistant admin fee and return shipping charges, any refund for the item will be determined by the retailer. DC Assistant fees are non-refundable. If the retailer's returns policy allows refunds, then this will be refunded to your credit card, and if applicable less any restocking fee (or similar) that is levied by the retailer. The exact refund timeframe is determined by your credit card issuer and ranges between 7-30 days.

You will see two charges from Desertcart, the first for the item as listed by the retailer, and a second charge for DC Assistant. You will be able to see the detailed charges in your order history. The DC Assistant fee will be based on the greater of the gross or volumetric weight of the item. This will be verified by Desertcart when the item is received from the retailer.

DC Assistant will complete the purchase within 24 hours however we cannot guarantee whether the desired item is in stock and/or otherwise available to purchase. You will be given an estimated delivery window (EDD) after the item has been purchased and this will be updated in your order history. This is only an estimate and should not be interpreted as a guarantee.

You should contact the Desertcart customer experience team and we will guide you through the process. We will confirm the return policy of the retailer and update you within 48 hours. While Desertcart Pro allows you to purchase a wide variety of products from around the world, there may be certain restrictions on items due to customs regulations or shipping limitations. To provide our service at the current prices, desertcart PRO is meant for individuals or family use only. If our system flags your account for commercial usage, we reserve the right to cancel your membership or pending orders, and refund you a PRO-rated amount.
PRO memberships will auto-renew 12 months after the date of your initial purchase. If you wish to switch off the auto-renew, you may do so from your dc account page. Your PRO membership will end at the end of your 12 month cycle.

Other Questions
Due to the changes in weather and the shipment progression from the international merchants, we do not want to take the risk of processing your order because you might receive the item in bad condition. Most of the international merchants would not want to commit for safety purposes.

If you have placed an order about it, this will be canceled by the merchant selling the product. These items normally would be those that would melt easily during transit (chocolates, gummies, supplements with gel-like substances, etc.)

While we try our best to filter out items that we are unable to deliver, our large list of items makes it hard to do so accurately. But, we do have a consistent process to remove all perishable items.

Most of our electronic items and appliances come from the United States, we, unfortunately, cannot guarantee if they are adapted to your native country voltage.

Please be reminded we will send a disclaimer to confirm if you would proceed with the order knowing the US electronic product might not work. Failure to respond to the disclaimer within 4 days will result in the cancellation of your order.

Items electronics voltage is from the country they are shipped from the US -> 110V, UK(220V), India(240V). Please check your countries voltage when ordering, otherwise, you may have to use a transformer to make sure the item works. We will try and inform you of any incompatibilities while reviewing your order.

A voltage converter/transformer can be used with the product however this will void the warranty of the item if found damaged from being fused.

Every country has different currencies and the conversion prices vary from currency to currency depending on the exchange value.   • Yes these charges are applicable for SelfShip shipments. These cannot be waived or bypassed for any reason.  Depending on your location, you may be charged these fees directly by the delivery partner at the time of delivery.
  • After your order has been packed for final delivery we will calculate the final charges for SelfShip and you will receive an email with the detailed charges.

It is the customer's responsibility to ensure that the items that they purchase are not prohibited or restricted by their local Customs authority.

We recommend that you check your local regulations before placing your order, and also in future in case of any rule changes.  SelfShip does not provide a refund in the event that the your shipment is not released by Customs.    
Items that exceed the size restrictions imposed by the airlines cannot be shipped from the origin.  This can vary by the route and destination.

Some items are classified as dangerous (or hazardous) goods (DG) for air transportation.  These cannot be shipped using SelfShip to most destinations (although we are continually expanding these capabilities).    
Any items that are perishable and/or received with temperature controlled packaging from the retailer cannot be shipped in the interest of safety    
 

If SelfShip receives an item that in their sole discretion is prohibited or likely to be subject to shipping or import restrictions (including size, dangerous, or temperature controlled goods), then you have the choice to:    

  1. Return the item to the original retailer.  Refer to "I would like to return an item.  What should I do?" above.  You will need to pay an Admin Fee of USD 15.00 per return.  The return will be arranged once these charges have been paid.
  2. Request for the item to be discarded.  You will need to pay an Admin Fee of USD 15.00 per order.  The disposal will be arranged once these charges have been paid.

Wherever possible we will utilise any streamlined/low value clearance processes that are available to facilitate the import customs clearance of your shipment into your country.  In some cases this also includes clearing many shipments together.

Due to this we are unable to provide detailed customs clearance documentation or a tax invoice. You will receive a notification and email with a breakdown of the SelfShip costs, however if these further details are necessary for you, then we recommend you consider alternative providers that can better support your billing requirements

  • You can use the Shipping Calculator to estimate the SelfShip costs. Where available you can also use the calculator to obtain an estimate for duty, tax/VAT, and customs clearance fees.
  • After your order has been packed for final delivery we will calculate the final charges for SelfShip and you will receive an email with the detailed charges.
  • The shipping fee will be based on the greater of the gross or volumetric weight of the shipment including the packaging. This will be verified by ShelfShip when the shipment is packed for delivery.
  • The gross weight of the item (including the retailer's packaging) will be recorded when the item is first registered into your account.  This gross weight is strictly for guidance and the final cost will be based on the greater of the gross and volumetric weight of the packed shipment (not the item).
  • Gross weight is the actual weight when the item or final package is placed on a scale, and the volumetric weight is based on the actual dimensions of the final package that is shipped to you.
  • Any individual item that exceeds 30kg and/or 75cm on any single dimension (length, width, height) may incur and oversized handling fee.

You should contact SelfShip support via live chat and we will guide you through the process. Please retain the packaging that the item was delivered in and share photos of the damaged item and packaging if/when requested.

  • The SelfShip USA and United Kingdom warehouses operate from Mon-Fri.
  • The SelfShip India warehouse operates from Mon-Sat.
  • The SelfShip UAE warehouse operates 7 days weekly.
     

If you have enabled Express Mode then you can generally expect to receive your item between 5-20 days later, depending on the destination. This is only an estimate and should not be interpreted as a guarantee, and there is no compensation for extended delivery timeframes.    

Any refund for the item will be determined by the original retailer and you should coordinate directly with them for this.  All SelfShip fees are non-refundable.

In the event that an item cannot be shipped to you or you wish to return it prior to it leaving the origin country, then we can assist you to return it to the retailer.    

  1. Contact the retailer and request a return in line with their store policy.
  2. Inform the retailer that you require an RMA and a prepaid return mailing label (RML)
  3. Once you have the RML, please share this with SelfShip support via live chat (as an attachment)
  4. You will need to pay a SelfShip admin fee of USD 15.00 per return shipment. The return will be arranged once these charges have been paid.
  5. If necessary we will repack your item, attach the RML, and request this to be collected from our warehouse in the next schedule


Note:

  1. We are unable to process returns where the item needs to be dropped off to a store, kiosk, depot etc.  We can only handle returns where the return costs are prepaid and will be collected from our warehouse.
  2. We cannot assist with returns for any reason after your item has departed from the origin country.  We recommend that you check the return options directly with the retailer and your local postal or courier service providers.

In the event that your shipment cannot be located, SelfShip's liability is strictly limited to a maximum of USD 100.00 per shipment.

What does an authorization charge or a card hold mean?
A credit card authorization is an approval from the card issuer, usually through a credit card processor, which confirms that the customer has the sufficient funds to cover the cost of the transaction. In it, an amount equal to the price of goods or service is deducted from the card until the merchant clears or approves the transaction. This may occur after the transaction has been completed, aborted or when the duration of the hold expires.

How long does it take for an authorization to clear?
In the case of debit cards, authorization holds may be cleared anywhere between 1 to 8 business days, depending on the concerned bank's policy.
In the case of credit cards, authorization holds may last as long as 30 days, depending on the issuing bank. You may need to contact your bank for more details on the hold/charge duration.

We work hard to ensure that these fees are not concealed and that you are not required to pay these additionally at the time of delivery. We incorporate these local duties and taxes into the price that you see on our site based on your location and one key step within this is to fulfil the import customs clearance regulations.

In order to comply with these regulations we have to produce an invoice for customs that excludes the government imposed fees which they then use to determine the duties, taxes, and other charges that they will levy on the item at the time of clearance. As a result of this process this customs invoice will often differ to the price that you paid. This is the normal procedure as the customs invoice excludes the duties and taxes, while your order total already includes this component.

If we were to specify the same price that you paid on the customs invoice, then they would end up charging taxes on top of taxes, and we would have to unnecessarily increase our prices. Therefore, this is both the normal and compliant process for customs, and also ensures that we can offer you the best possible price for the item with no surprises after you place your order.

Desertcart recommends and prefers card payments over cash for several reasons. The company focuses on selling great products and providing excellent customer service. Hence being cashless helps the company to ensure smoother and faster deliveries; while also providing customers products at much lower prices. Paying by cash also does not help banks to provide full customer protection. The company also offers its customers a hassle-free return policy in case the product is not suitable. In some countries like UAE, customers can purchase a prepaid internet shopping card using cash and then use it for shopping online. However, some items will show cash on delivery options on the product page, and then they can be selected as a payment option on the checkout page.
We do support cash on delivery on certain products (only for UAE) and below are some of the terms:

Existing Orders

The amount will be debited into the original account you used to purchase the order.

For card transactions - the refunded amount will be debited to the same card used to purchase the order.

For bank transfer and cash deposit - refunds will be processed in the form of store credit.

Be advised that refunds may take 5-10 business days to show up on your statement depending on your issuing bank.

Bear in mind that we cannot issue a refund to a different card. If your card is already expired, please contact your bank institution for further information.

Some of the products listed on the website are with 6 months to 1-year international warranty and depends on the manufacturer. We suggest you see the warranty information of the product on the item page, or on the manufacturer's website first before placing your order.

If there is an issue with the product you ordered from us and you need our help claiming the warranty, please contact us for further clarification of the warranty claim of the product you ordered.

Be advised that warranty claims will take at least 30-60 days and sometimes up to 90 days depending on what country the product will be returned and the manufacturer's lead time. Since most of the products are sourced from international merchants, the products have to be shipped back to the merchant/manufacturer and we will never charge you for the product's return shipping to us and to the merchant/manufacturer's country. The merchant/manufacturer may send back the fixed product or send us a new product.

Please note that while we do our best to follow up with the merchant, we have no control over how long they will take to ship the item back to us.

While we try to make sure every order is perfect, sometimes they aren't. There may be manufacturer defects, logistics issues, wrong item etc. If you believe something is wrong, please let us know as soon as you've received the order by contacting our support team from your orders' page. We will resolve your issue as quickly as possible :)

You can cancel your order until we have prepared the items and charged your card (usually within 24 hours from placing the order). Orders cannot be canceled after they are prepared for shipment.

In the case of returning an order, the shipping fees (if any) cannot be refunded.
