Good product, good value, some installation caveats
I've seen similar products being sold for up to a thousand dollars more, but I don't think there is anything better about those products that justifies the premium. This gets 5 stars for being solid, and works really well. Fit and and finish looks great on my 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor, once everything gets installed right. And it's great that they offer racks and accessories that work with the rails for a great integrated look. But it loses a star due to installation-related issues I've encountered. There are some things to be aware of:-Installation instructions are not great. It's adequate and you can figure things out if you have a knack for it, but be prepared to waste a lot of time. Their estimated time for installation is about 2 hours. Be prepared to spend 4-6 hours more, especially if working alone.-Bed rail brackets for the Ranger came in a small package that was shipped separately. Aside from a seller communication that the order may ship in separate packages, the main installation manual never alerts you on this. Don't assume the brackets that come in the main package is what you'll use, as they may not fit or properly secure the cover to the truck.-Some parts may not be listed in the manual, like the extra thick foam seal strip that comes in the main package that is to be used for the Ranger. This strip is used for the front edge of the bed instead of the thin strips described in the guide.-The thick foam strip included was too thick for my Ranger Raptor (probably true for all 2024 and later Rangers). The included strip is about 1.25" thick, and will lift the retractable base and cover rail off of the bed sides causing a 1/4" gap, as well as difficulty installing the front-most brackets to the rail later on. I ended up buying a 1" high-density foam strip on Amazon and that worked perfectly, but this should really be corrected and provided by the manufacturer.-The Ranger-specific brackets that were shipped separately will install as illustrated in the included installation sheet for the rear and middle brackets to the pre-drilled holes in the Ranger bed for a perfect integrated fit. However, the front brackets will not fit as described. You can still work around it and safely secure the rail with the bracket by hooking it around the bottom of the rail.-The spacer bar is used to ensure that the cover rails are parallel at the tail end. Make sure that you use it properly during installation, and that there is absolutely no side-to-side play of the bar before you tighten the brackets to the cover. If there is too much play, the latches may not properly engage on both sides of the cover to keep the cover locked as you drive your truck. This will cause the cover to suddenly open and retract while driving.-The rear drainage tubes have nowhere to be routed into in a 2024 Ranger's existing holes on interior side of the bed, as they illustrate. I think I'll have to enlarge one of the holes or find another solution to fit tubes to one of the smaller holes. Front drainage tubes will require large enough holes to be drilled through the bed caps towards the bottom of the bulkhead.-Watching the installation video is helpful, but won't address the specific issues and challenges that are vehicle-specific.-There are absolutely no extra bolts, washers, or nuts included. Be careful to not lose any during installation.- Support is responsive by phone and email. They promptly sent replacements free of charge for a small bolt cover cap that snapped off during install.Overall, I am please with the finished results and would recommend this to others who are considering a auto-retracting hard tonneau cover. But if what I described seems too daunting, I'd recommend an inexpensive soft folding cover that'll serve your needs in most situations.
