Jamie xx will release his debut album In Colour on June 2, 2015 on Young Turks. The eleven track LP includes previous releases “Girl” and “Sleep Sound” as well as forthcoming single “Loud Places,” which features vocals from Romy Madley Croft. The release of In Colour comes on the back of an incredible six year creative period for Jamie xx, which has seen him alternate effortlessly between his role as founding member and producer of The xx, and creator of more electronic and club orientated music as Jamie xx. A string of acclaimed productions in recent years including debut solo single “Far Nearer,” remixes for the likes of Adele, Radiohead and Florence & The Machine, production work for Drake and Alicia Keys plus We’re New Here - Jamie’s seminal reworking of Gil Scott-Heron’s final studio album - hinted at what was to come. With In Colour – a bold, celebratory, emotional record that features collaborations with The xx band mates Romy Madley Croft (“Seesaw” and "Loud Places”) and Oliver Sim (“Stranger In A Room”), Young Thug and Popcaan (“Good Times”) and Four Tet (“Seesaw”) – Jamie delivers his definitive artistic statement.

Wherever you can hear this man, keep the vibe alive
I originally bought this album only because of the first song Gosh. But the whole album turned out to be pretty good kind of like a chill-out trance feel and I also fell in love with another song on the album that I would have never discovered If I Didn't Have bought the whole album. That song is Hold tight #7, and #1 are the best for me

Subtle, clever, and beautiful: Jamie xx's is a pleasure to listen to again, and again, and again.
First listen, this album flew completely over my head. My first thought was "meh". I shelved it for a while. After a few months I picked it up again and listened to it a few times. It finally clicked: It feels like the ultimate album in terms of replayability. The melodies, textures, drum patterns, and sounds on this album are just catchy enough to merit repeated listenings and are subtle enough that you don't get sick of them, and they feel fresh every time. This is a fantastic debut (I didn't forget about We're New Here) by a very talented producer and I can't wait to hear whatever he makes next.

Smart, fun, original pop music
I previously only knew Jamie from his work with The xx (which, if you haven't heard their first album, it's well worth checking out here: XX )I was impressed with how different this work is. His band's music is good for a late night when you want to be alone. His solo work on "In Colour" is more appropriate for a dance party (albeit a very hipster one). The songs have thick layers of sound and interesting chord progressions and continue to be rewarding on multiple listens. "Good times" and "Loud places" are probably my favorite songs on the album, but there's not a disappointing track. If you are looking for my favorite albums from last year, "In Colour" will easily be on that list.

A good album with some truly sublime moments.
Both XX albums were of utmost-excellent quality, and Jamie's DJ style is quite unique. As such, my expectations were (perhaps) too high for this album. The singles "Loud Places" and "I know There's Gonna Be Good Times" are both quite catchy and fit my expectations for the album to a T. Not only do they have great melodies and chorus lines, but the percussion is exquisitely produced. The opening track, "Gosh," has a nice progressive build-up to a euphoric high with it's sublime synth melody. Unfortunately for me, the song has a vocal sample in it I find irritating; which just sounds a bit crude and goofy. Fortunately for me, I made my own edit of the track (without the vocal sample)...and it sounds perfect. "Sleep Sound" is a breezy track with a twitchy sounding synth line; it is good, but the plucking strings sound rather uncomfortable on the occasional listen. With a melody and beat just out of reach, "Seesaw" is a bit too ethereal (for my taste.) "Obvs" offers up a slice of the Caribbean in a very melancholic way; certainly a different take on steel drums (I like it!) Oliver Sim's guest spot takes me straight back to the XX; I'm not sure if it fits the album, but who cares (the XX is always good). The excellent progressive cut "Hold Tight" inspires vibes of Sasha's heyday of the early 2000's, building slowly to a crescendo with hypnotic synths and rhythms. The aforementioned "Loud Places" and "I Know There's Gonna..." are both pristine pieces of pop-delight. The album closes with the appropriately titled "The Rest is Noise" and "Girl," which fall into the ethereal realm of sonics; while a bit boring at first, these last cuts really grew on me as some of the deeper moments of the album. "The Rest Is Noise" has a melodic development that I've really grown to love. I give this album three (and a half if I could) stars, as there are six truly excellent songs here (seven, counting the re-edit of "Gosh"). I would say four and a half had it not lost my interest on several occasions.

Jamie XX you are amazing my friend
Wooo Whooo!!!! Jamie XX you are amazing my friend! Jamie XX is a breath of fresh air to underground electronic music. Jamie XX is his own genre and is an original. He has an amazing island sound in some songs, tight beats, some off beats that mend together flawlessly, and Jamie XX is not shy with the bass. I love bass! He is such a great music composer encompassing older awesome sounds in ways that will blow your mind. Jamie XX keep doing your thing! If Jamie XX ever comes close to North Carolina USA I will be there to worship his perfect sound in the mean time I will be wearing out this album bumping with my beats car audio system. Many many props!!!
