Cut down a small tree on very steep hill very easily
I had a smaller diameter tree on a very steep hill and had a feeling a hatchet would be good to cut it down with. This hatchet was delivered, looked great and I went to chop it down. The tree went down in about 5 minutes. It was easy to keep my balance and keep chopping due to the compact size. The hatchet came sharp and performed well. It felt sturdy with every swing. If I need more axes I'd order from this company again.

Hope you own a grinder
This is a well made axe. Good size and weight for backpacking and camping. My three star rating is because the one I was sent is no where close to functional sharp. I’m going to have to find someone with a grinding machine before it will be of any use to me.

Great for making kindling. Made in America 🇺🇸
Great size hatchet, not to big or small for a one handed aim swing for making kindling. I love supporting a company that makes it's products in America with American materials.

Best Value in Hatchets
Council Tool is the best value in axes and hatchets and this is a prime example. For $40-50 you cannot beat it. It performs every bit as well as my GB hatchet for a fraction of the price.Made in the USA. Hickory handle. Great heat treating. Relatively sharp from the factory and ready to accept a razors edge sharpening if you have the tools and skill to do it.Mine arrived in wonderful condition. The only flaw, if you want to call it that, is the grain alignment. It’s perpendicular to the direction of the strike. However, if you use axes and hatchets enough and have been around people who really use them you’ll know that orientation isn’t as important on hatchet length handles. Good handle material, plenty of growth rings, and zero grain run-out is what you want. Even the US Forestry service agrees.I sharpened it up a little and took it out a few times. It does everything it should do well. Chopping down 6-8” trees is not a problem. Splitting up kindling is not a problem. Shaving and shaping wood (bowls and spoons) is simple. It’s balanced well and rhe handle is the perfect size.I would 100% buy this again.I sanded the handle with 220 grit sandpaper. Then I twisted some 120 grit around it horizontally to add some VERY light texture. Then I put 8 coats of tong oil (half dark from real milk paint) on it and it looks and feels amazing.Great tool!

Made in the USA
American made hatchet with will be perfect for trimming up kindling this winter. I'll probably hit the handle with a light coat of BLO or Tung Oil to protect it.
