Affordable; works as advertised
Having an older Harmon-Kardon AVR with only 2 component inputs I needed a way to expand the inputs to allow component input from the Xbox and PS2. I was using a manual A/v selector but the lack of digital audio in/out was annoying. Replacing the manual box with the Impact Acoustics 3-Play was a great solution. Using affordable TOSALINK digital audio cables allowed me to spend more on quality component cables. The Impact Acoustics A/v selector itself was less of an expense than a premium set of component cables.I am impressed with the ease of setup and use. I do not have the equipment to test the functioning of the unit but regarding visual and audio capability I find no discernable difference from a direct hook up to the AVR. Obviously any interconnect will have some effect, but I can't tell the difference. It leaves me wondering how they did it, with comparable units costing twice or even four times as much. The caveats are the lack of coaxial digital audio in/out, and the tiny credit card sized remote. I have no issue with the function of the remote; it works well from across the room. I'm just afraid of losing the darn thing!

2nd one was good
After reading reviews on some of the manual TOSLINK switches and the failure rates, I decided to go with this unit instead as there's no moving parts. As mentioned in other reviews this item seems decent quality and works as advertised. Unit defaults to input number one when powered on so keep that in mind when attaching your devices. I used this to connect a Sharp Blu-ray DVD and a Sony DVP multi-disc DVD player to my 6 year old Yamaha receiver which only has two optical inputs. The unit works perfectly and the included remote is handy. Now about the Amazon experience. My first unit arrived with the center pin from the plastic protection plug broken off in the output jack so there was no way it could be used. There was no visible damage to the shipping or manufactures box, so I have to believe that the unit was shipped from the factory like that. Amazon was GREAT in shipping the replacement. I had it in hand the next day. Good job Amazon! The return of the bad unit was no hassle.Upon arrival of the replacement unit, I noticed that the plastic protection plug in the output jack was bent slightly to the side. I thought "oh no here we go again" but the plug came out with no issues. The fact that the plug was bent sideways leads me to believe that the unit (even though it's bubble wrapped inside the factory box) does move around inside the box during shipping and puts pressure on the plug. Or possibly that too much force is used when inserting the plug during manufacturing. Either way, make sure you check that plug when the unit arrives. One other thing concerning the output optical jack, the jack itself is slightly different than what I've seen on other devices with optical outs. The jack will not allow my TOSLINK cable to "click" into place and lock in the jack. The cable fits fine and doesn't fall out unless you pull on it but I thought I'd mention it just in case. Over time it might loosen up and allow the cable to fall out but I hope not. These is no current "standard" for TOSLINK cable ends, jacks, or connectors so they do vary slightly. I have three different brands of cables here and will try each one to see if any will click and lock in the jack. With the exception of the output jack issues, this unit is well made, looks great, and should be a nice addition for anybody who has an older amp that lacks enough optical input jacks. Works well much of the time
I bought this to adapt a new DVD player - HDMI only - to my old projection TV. The remote is fine, even if it takes more than once to get it to change inputs. Everything works pretty much as expected, with one exception: When there's a particularly bright scene (maybe something else about it? I don't know) the video gets cut off entirely. The upshot is I'm watching a movie and for about 1/4 second the screen goes black. Never happened before installing this. It happens both with the new DVD player and watching the cable set-top box, so I don't blame either of those.Everything is still watchable, so I'm happy I can use my stuff. One of these days I'll get a new large HDMI compatible TV with multiple HDMI inputs, and I'll get rid of this thing.

Flawless.
First: A rubber leg was missing from the bottom of the unit. Second: There is a LOUD crack (snap) when switching imputs.UPDATE; Snapping was from a cheap receiver. Bought an Onkyo receiver and all the problems stopped! Switching and fiber optics are perfect. I purchased the 3-Play and the cheap surround system at the same time and didn't realize how cheap the system was. I actually bought another 3-Play for my main system a month later. It solved all my connection woes.

Audio problem
The video works great but the first audio input would cut out pretty frequently. I tried different fiber optic cables and got the same results. The second audio input worked fine. The fiber optic connections seemed quite a bit looser than my stereo receiver. Not sure if that's what caused the problem though. I am sending it back.

Works very well
I've used this to hook up my PVR, DVD and Xbox to my 1080i TV and audio amplifier. Initially I looked at this device because my amp only had two optical audio input ports, but I love the simplicity; so much easier to just click a button and everything works without needing to worry about what input your TV is on and then what input your amp is using.Only slight criticism is that the lights are very bright and are distracting from watching the TV; but you can put something in front after selecting or even a tad of black electrical tape permanently over the lights.
