I'm teaching my 9 year-old granddaughter some of the needle arts. We've worked on machine stitching and hand stitching and now we're working on cross stitch. Typically, you are given a graph to read from and each color may either be given a symbol or a block in the correct color. This kit is made easier. She doesn't have to count how many stitches to count and the picture is traced on the fabric, with each section numbered and each number corresponds to a specific color. All of the markings will eventually be covered by the stitching. She is truly enjoying it and rather than wait for my weekly visit, she is able to work by herself when I'm not there. If she still enjoys cross stitching after she gets a few small projects done, with practice she can progress to using graphs.There are two things I think I should point out. You can see in two of the pictures I posted, one picture shows the threads as solid colors and the other shows several threads that are variegated. ALL of the threads are solids. Also, I could find nothing in the directions that tell you how many threads to use at a time. The small embroidery skeins consist of 6 strands lightly twisted together. When I cross stitch, I sometimes use 3 strands and sometimes 2. This kit leaves the choice to you. She is using 2 strands, which covers the fabric nicely. It would be a shame if we used more threads to make it a bit puffier and later discovered there wasn't enough fabric to finish the project.Her mom sent me a picture of the princess happily stitching. I'm happy that she enjoys it.

Fun little kit! The size of the project is enough to be challenging, but not intimidating. The wooden frame can be painted to personalize the picture. The instructions are clear and simple to follow. I love the black cross stich cloth because it makes the colors pop.

I have a 19-year-old special needs daughter with an intellectual disability. Keeping her occupied is a must.
