Good start jar
I bought this for my daughter and it's really nice! The jar's glass is about the same thickness as a Mason/Ball/Kerr jar. Both coverings work and fit well. The elastic markings show up well and it stays put on the jar. The silicone scraper is great, too. It's a little large for starter for one loaf, but I think she'll increase her starter for making two loaves soon. We hand washed it before using and the markings on the jar seem to be well done.

Great Sourdough Starter Kit – Easy to Use and Maintain!
I’m really happy with this sourdough starter jar kit! It works exactly as I expected and makes feeding and maintaining my starter so much easier. The jar is the perfect size, and the included spatula, cloth cover, and feeding time rubber band are super handy for keeping everything organized and on track. One thing to note is that the jar isn’t dishwasher safe (as stated), but I made the mistake of putting it in the dishwasher anyway and accidentally broke the thermometer. Fortunately, the kit comes with two thermometers, so I had a backup—definitely a thoughtful addition!Overall, this is a great kit for anyone working with sourdough, whether you’re a beginner or experienced baker. Just be careful to follow the care instructions! Highly recommend.

Couldn't ask for more
No flaws, nice set that tells all starter metrics. The straight side bottle is way better than the mason jars I've been using. The spatula is the perfect size and shape. The thermometer strip is accurate. The cloth and screw top fit perfect.Simple excellence is appreciated

Great Sourdough Kit with Handy Accessories – Just Keep an Eye on Overflow
This is a quality product with great features, but I ran into a few issues. First, I really like the jar itself. The glass has a thickness and weight similar to a mason jar, and the wide-mouth design makes it easy to feed the starter and transfer it without a funnel. The accessories are really useful, too. I love the feeding tracker band, the measurement marks on the jar, the stick-on thermometer, and the cloth cover. These all make managing your starter simple and organized.I’m deducting a star (a half-star if I could) because my Herman Sourdough Starter overflowed significantly, creating a mess on my counter. The grooves around the top of the jar were tricky to clean afterward, and the cloth cover got pretty messy, too. Since sourdough starter is so sticky and full of gluten, it’s tough to clean off any surface. I didn’t want to throw the cover into my washing machine, so I ended up turning it inside out and putting it in my dishwasher, which did the trick! For reference, I used the Herman Sourdough Starter recipe published on a recipe blog called GB's Kitchen. This recipe calls for 2 cups of flour, 2 cups of warm water, 1/4 cup of sugar, and one packet of yeast (which all fits into the jar with room to spare before it activates and expands). If you use a different recipe, you may not run into this problem. However, I recommend placing it in a larger container to catch potential overflow or starting it in a larger container until it’s finished expanding. The first time I made my starter, I discarded the overflow, which affected its growth. The second time, I caught the overflow in a 4-cup liquid measuring cup, scrubbed the jar clean, and then transferred the starter back, which worked much better. I’ve included two photos: one showing the overflow and the other showing how full the jar was after I cleaned it and transferred the starter back in.Overall, I’m happy with this purchase, but just be mindful of the potential for overflow, especially if your starter is particularly active!

This jar has worked out perfect. Easy to use and does not take up much room in fridge. I would buy it again

Beautiful and well thought out design for “ smaller batches of starters”.
Great Idea for smaller batches, but for the standard they are too small will overflow. I love the design and concept of the jars just wish they were bigger.

Great for a beginner!
Note that I’m new to this. I’m a baby sourdough girlie. But! I like how simple this makes things! It’s easy to track when to feed Dough Burnham so I don’t forget. My only complaint is when he rises and gets the little bonnet dirty. But it’s fine. It’s cool. I can clean it. Like I said: I’m new to this, so I’m learning the ropes!Real talk: the silicone spatula does feel a little cheap, but for the cost, that’s understandable and I’m not complaining. It works for what it’s needed for!
