Amazing! Not like you would expect in a second book.
I am truly captivated by the story and still wonder why this series has not been talked about more since its release.A seamless continuation from its predecessor, the story maintained complex themes of identity, love and redemption. Now, with the focus on trust, loyalty, acceptance and pursuit of a greater cause. As Diem navigates the treacherous waters of court life, she grapples with her newfound role and family. Diem's journey is the constant evolution of her identity as she tries to reconcile her heritage and upbringing with her aspirations for a more equal society for the mortals and Descended. She now knows what she wants, how is she going to get it? Diem must learn to discern true allies from those who seek her demise and exploit her power for their own game. The story's central aspect is the balance between trust and suspicion. The plot is masterfully delivered by keeping readers on edge as the lines between friend and foe become increasingly blurred. The book also examines the power dynamics within a hierarchal family where scheming and betrayal can be heart-wrenching. However, it also celebrates the power of human connection and the family one chooses rather than being born into. Thus, the portrayal of complex relationships has added tension whereas the portrayal of devotion reminded readers of the importance of having a support network in times of adversity.I can see other readers' frustrations with Diem, while her youthful impulsiveness sometimes hinders her progress. She gradually matures, demonstrating an increase in wisdom and strategic thinking. By the story's end, she has transformed into a leader capable of uniting those around her.I did not experience book 2 uncertainties (hence the title). This fantastical world has reeled me in, that I wish I could take a trip there and see it for my own eyes - being mortal be damned.

Readable but painful. Definitely for YA
I have resisted giving only 3 stars as I am not the target audience for these books i.e. young teenagers to it would be unfair to judge it against fantasy romance for adults. That said, book 1 kept my interest enough to go on to book 2 but I'm afraid I quickly found myself skim reading. If you like action, intrigue, pace, banter and even a tiny bit of spice then this is definitely NOT for youThis wasn't slow burn, this is glacial, tortuously, painful burn to the point of being irritating. The whole book drags slowly to a couple of final events by which time I was so annoyed with the childish, erratic behaviour of the FMC I lost interest. But, as I said, this will likely please very young teenagers as it's well written enough and with enough side characters and no spice

Loved Everything About This Book!
This is becoming one of my top series I’ve read this year. I loved book one but Glow of the Everflame is so much better.Penn Cole has a beautiful way of writing and this intricate storytelling that pulls every emotion out of you that you could possibly feel. Diem is written with this absolute vulnerability while also trying to navigate this new path that has been chosen for her, she’s fierce and protective while having these doubts that makes her question everything. There isn’t anything I can fault this book on, it has the banter, the most wholesome found family that you just can’t help but love as well as this wonderful plot that is so gripping while still hold the mysterious aspect. Court politics that make you despise some characters and moments that pull the saddest emotion from you.And has one of the best and most beautifully written slow burn romances I’ve ever read, it has the all the tension and angst and moments that just make you melt and I just know that the outcome will be so worth the wait. There isn’t enough words to describe just how good Luther is as the mmc he portrays this rather complex prince with hidden secrets as well as an emotional past. Yet his feelings for Diem are clear and even though this is written from Diem’s POV, Penn pulls you in with her descriptive writing that you can feel and see all Luther’s inner turmoils that he portrays when it concerns Diem.I honestly can’t recommend this series enough, this fantasy romance is one of the best with such a well thought out plot, court politics, betrayals, found family and one of the best slow slow burn romances.

Brilliant second book in the series!
The sequel the Spark of the Everflame, and second book in the Kindreds Curse Saga, Glow of the Everflame picks up exactly where we left Diem at the end of the first book. This is an exciting sequel which continues the level of excitement and intrigue of the first book. We start to get to really know Luther and his family a lot more, as well as some of his own secrets. Diems own background still remains a mystery but we can begin to guess what the answers might be. I'm a huge fan of hers, she is strong but also still questions her actions and feels doubt.I picked this up as soon as I'd finished book one. I just couldn't wait and it didn't disappoint at all. It's a great mix of adventure, politics, action, romance, humour, twists. It quite literally has it all. Brilliant story telling and great characters.Make sure you have book three ready to go!

Ugh!
Im so angry at her mum! Like she thinks she can just go missing for well over 6 months but could return like nothing had happened?! Her daughter would still be taking her the flameroot and her husband still be a okay?! I just don't get it!!!And I knew, KNEW, Henri would be a little weasel!

One of my top reads in 2024!
I’m so glad I took the plunge (and braved the dent in my wallet) to buy this series on Amazon. Living in the Philippines, where these books aren’t available in local bookstores, it was worth every penny (or peso, in my case). 💸The story follows Diem, our strong-willed FMC, who embarks on a journey to find her mother. Along the way, she stumbles upon life-changing secrets about herself and the world she thought she knew. With a brewing war between rebels and the Descended (the ruling nobles), Diem faces impossible choices—not just in battle but also in love. Does she follow her heart back to her childhood sweetheart or fall for the mysterious, brooding prince?💭 My thoughts:This series DID NOT DISAPPOINT. It’s worth every ounce of hype and then some! The author’s writing will pull you into the story and make you feel like you’re living right there with them. The characters are brilliantly crafted, the banter is witty and snarky (I was giggling constantly!), and the found family dynamic? I’d love to have them in my life!📖 Spark of the Everflame:Unputdownable from start to finish. I couldn’t stop reading because every chapter left me craving more. And the ending? OH. MY. GOD.😱 So glad I bought all three books at once, or I’d have gone crazy waiting!📖 Glow of the Everflame:This is where all the action kicks into high gear. And did I mention it’s a slow-burn romance? It’s the slowest of slooooow burns, but the tension is off the charts! You’ll be begging for more.📖 Heat of the Everflame:Admittedly, this was my least favorite of the three. Diem’s self-doubt really started to get to me, but the story is still a must-read. It deepens the world-building and answers some major questions. Though slower compared to the first two books, it’s absolutely worth it!Now, I’m counting down the days until book 4 drops! 😩 Please, release it already—I need closure! 🙏🏻😭

WTH
The story is good, the first book left me wanting more… But Diem just sucks. I truly hate her, she’s dumb, mean and just repeats the same mistakes over and over again, and treats poorly the only people who care for her. She’s the worst.

Best reads of 2023!
WOW! I loved this sequel even more than the debut novel of the Kindred's Curse Saga. Somehow, Penn Cole managed to bring it to a whole new level and one up herself! I am so excited for where this series is going! If you enjoyed the war between magical realms from C. L. Wilson's Tairen Soul series or the Kejari Trial from Broadbent's Crowns of Nyaxia duology, you will love this book.We have some of the most romantic, most amazing lines that have ever been written for an MMC. Penn Cole is fantastic at writing romance. Diem and Luther have a really special connection even when they are fighting or unsure of each other. There is beautiful yearning written into the romance of this book. The way that magical displays are described is beautiful and exciting. Every time an action sequence hit with big magic, the images and the scenes are explosive. They are so fun to read! Glow of the Everflame develops a full cast of found family that I adored. The banter was some of the best I've ever read - it was full of laughs.Glow of the Everflame has awesome character development, which takes real skill and effort on an author's part to do well. You see Diem slowly begin to shape herself into a leader, meeting the moment, in a very believable way that has you rooting for her success and fully invested. CGlow of the Everflame builds off of Spark very well. More details are revealed to the reader and we begin to get a sense of the sheer scope of this world and this story. After reading book 2, rather than feeling like you have already encountered everything interesting in this world, you get the sense as a reader that you have just hit the tip of the ice burg on an epic journey in a huge world. This series has easily made my top 5 of all time!
