Great value for money
Scott Robertson is an isnpiration to any aspiring designer. After being lucky in stumbling over a presentation on youtube that he did, it makes it very hard for me to find someone else who I can say is at a similar level in teaching the art of sketching, drawing, visualising. There are lots of books, videos online. but this book takes you to the basics of rendering. For this book you do need to know the basics fo sketching so if you do not have these basic skills, then you might want to consider buying his first book "how to sketch".This book has also got videos online to compliment the informtaion in it. So basically you are not left to you own devices as per so many other how to render/sketch books. Other books almost make you feel like it is impossible to achieve the level of professionalism in the art of rendering. However, this book takes you step by step, giving you so much more confidence. It is very very usefull material to have.

A fantastic book on lighting and rendering
A great follow up to How To Draw, what that book is for drawing 3d dimensional forms in perspective, this book is for taking those drawings through to a rendered finish. The book covers a bunch of topics that have given a clearer idea of what to be taking mental/physical notes of when observing different materials and forms under various lighting conditions. This will be one of those art books that after the first readthrough i will be returning to for the fundamentals brush-up i do now and again.

Do it, buy it now!
If you liked "how to draw", you'll like this. If you have liked any other book from DesignStudioPress you'll probably like this.If you haven't bought any of their books before, this is a great technical resource for beginners and the experienced. It covers all the fundamentals (regarding rendering) you'll likely need to improve your skills, or brush up on what you already know. (if you have bought learning materials from DSP or TheGnomonWorkshop before, you'll probably recognise a few things in this book).Well presented in both the quality of the print and also the layout of the content, well worth the money.

I would recommend this book and "How to draw" from Scott also
I would recommend this book and "How to draw" from Scott also. These two are like a bible for anyone in product design, games, movies or other industries which require drawing and painting in Photoshop or any other similar tool. Scott has the advantage of being both a teacher and working in the industry and his books gives you insights from both sides which is really helpful for a ton of applications. Amazing books. Daniel

Excellent book on rendering
There are a great deal many books on painting and drawing but not many on actual rendering of textures and light properties. Actually this is not just one of the few, it may actually be the best. Mandatory if you're a pro or aspiring to work as a one.

and the associated videos are all pretty faultless though so I do recommend you all purchase ...
Fantasttic follow on from How to Draw.In a similar vein to the last book, the auhors lay out everything from the off and gently ease you into concepts which may or may not be familiar to you. Really well thought out content. Why 4 stars? Well it may seem harsh bu tI consider the app to be part of the content and so far it's not appearing on the google play store. I undertand and appreciate the videos are still viewable with info available in the book. But for 100% of the experience (Augmented reality viewing etc) I would have hoped for a working App by now.The book, it's ontent, and the associated videos are all pretty faultless though so I do recommend you all purchase it if you are looking to achive a highter level of finish to your work.

Very in depth and comprehensive book on how to render ...
Very in depth and comprehensive book on how to render. Haven't seen any other book as detailed in this subject matter. A copiously illustrated and "scientific" approach to the subject of "how to render".
