Great little gadget, Works straight out of the box!
I was stuck with a new tv that did not have any audio out options, i came across this through my search on Amazon and bingo, this was the answer. The delivery was quick , only two days after ordering it and when it arrived it was packaged very well indeed. This works straight out of the box, all you need is to make sure you have additonal HDMI cables available as the audio extractor and power supply plug with addtional mounting bracket are only supplied. The hdmi input of the Audio extractor box is connected to the audio source (eg Blu ray, DVD player) and the hdmi output connects to your tv. Both Audio and video signal are passed through this box from the source to the tv. The audio is extracted by the box and passed through the optional Audio outputs that are available on the box. You can connect 2.0 speakers to the stereo analog output on the box or connect Optical/SPDIF to your Amp reciever or a soundbar which supports optical or analog. The box can switch between 5.1 surround channels or 2.0 channels with a manual selector switch built on the box. It supports a number of Audio formats including dobly digital, which was what i was looking for also as i have a soundbar that i wanted to connect to my LG tv.

Good facility, serves its purpose
Connected and worked well right from the start. Slight loss in video quality but not yet ascertained if from the long cables or this gadget. Output volume a little lower than expected but satisfactory

Connected it to the ARC port on my LG TV and it does absolutely nothing. Disappointing considering the price

Great for XBMC and amps that don't support HDMI audio input
I put XBMC on a small PC that would act as a media to go on my 42" Plasma TV, and the only two issues I had was:1. My TV does not decode DTS or Dolby2. My A/V amp does not accept audio from HDMI (video passthrough only) and to get audio in to the A/V amp, I would need to somehow make the audio 'Optical' which my amp does support..so I got this HDMI / Optical splitter hooked up to the back of the PC and told XBMC to enable DTS, Dolby and full 1080p, sent the optical audio in the back of the A/V amp, sent the picture to the TV by HDMI and one week in... not one audio dropout or loss of quality. So far so good

Does the job nicely
Bought this to connect to an Optoma 230x projector connected to a device that could only output surround sound on the HDMI cable. The projector has no speakers or audio pass through to external amp. This device worked perfectly. It appears to negotiate 5.1 (or stereo if you press the switch) through to the connecting device on its own. This is a good feature because if your device doesn't report that it supports anything other than 2 channel audio then you would only get stereo otherwise! It can then output the audio over optical toslink or coaxial spdif.Nice little box - well made. Does the job perfectly.

Excellent Little Device
This gadget does exactly what it says. It extracts the digital audio output from the HDMI signal which can be passed onto an audio amplifier to decode the Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 surround sound. Both optical and co-ax presentations are supported for the audio output.Very simple to use, just plug in the cables and off it goes, no messing around - highly recommended for those who have surround sound amplifiers with no HDMI inputs.
