Industrializing Financial Services with DevOps: Proven 360° DevOps operating model practices for enabling a multi-speed bank

If you currently work in financial services in any IT capacity: a must read
It's quite easy to think that DevOps in the financial services industry is just something some dev teams have to deal with, day in and day out, with the ultimate goal being increased throughput. With concrete examples from the financial industry, the author provides crystal clear views on the immense value that adopting a true DevOps culture can have on the teams, customers, and businesses themselves. There are lots of books out there that spell out the benefits of adopting devops, but to me, this book provides a breath of fresh air. Apart from the easy read and rich content, my absolute favourite aspect of this great book is the myriad of examples the author gives on how to not do DevOps. Reading this book, I keep finding myself agreeing with the author on how different organisations I've worked with or for in the past make the same mistakes in their effort to adopt DevOps.It is obvious from the multitude of examples the author generously provides throughout the book that this is the culmination of several years of experience and fieldwork. So therefore, I can't help but ask myself: Why do organisations try to re-invent the wheel when they start their DevOps transformation journeys? Why not read what experts have to say on the subject and adopt those practices, or more importantly, avoid the mistakes others have made in the past? I feel this book was written to provide clarity, to engineers, scrum masters, all the way to CTOs around the DevOps practices and trasnformation journies, especially in the Financial Services industry. There is something in this book for everyone. This book should be a must in the library of everyone working in the financial industry!

Clear and concise - recommend!
I love a non fiction book that doesn’t waffle on - it gets to the point simply and quickly. This is a nice and easy read; with great use of diagrams to help the reader grasp concepts. Recommended for all working with Financial Services Technology (including the Business, as lets face it - who doesn’t work with tech these days!)

A practical book for DevOps Professionals
This book clearly reflects Spyridon's experience and expertise as a DevOps practitioner within Financial Services. It is useful for any DevOps engineer who wants to understand what it takes to succeed with their stakeholders beyond fulfilling one's day-to-day task on the keyboard. It equips the reader with frameworks to consider in different organisational structures and scenarios such that DevOps becomes more than just a buzzword. For leaders who need to run their business units to maximise the output from their DevOps teams, the book will be useful for both new setups and refining existing teams as it gives a holistic 360 degrees perspective.

Modern DevOps
DevOps world is changing rapidly, skills valued 2,3 years ago might be much less valuable today. Financial DevOps is changing at an even higher pace. This brings serious risks to deliverables on both Dev and infrastructure side. Lack of a good operating model and clear vision leads to delayed projects, fortune spent on non finished ideas and stakeholders frustration. This book is not focused only on Financial DevOps, this model can be applied to any other industry. It helps to understand from A to Z how a healthy and efficient process should look like. Author is not pretending to have a silver bullet to each and single problem and we all know that this is not possible. Book is full of real life problems and scenarios. Written by a person who knows the world of DevOps very well. This is not a technical book, so that's why it is so different from many other positions. Excellent positions for all people who want to expand horizons, plan better and save costs.

A must read for any DevOps manager and transformation lead
I really enjoyed this book, as it is very rich in content and real use cases. I usually do not read full books, but with this one the story telling across chapters, keeps you enagged. The claim of 360° is honest as the book takes you step by step from the DevOps value propostion, to the vision and from the enablement and adoption to the benefit measurement. The latter which is covered in chapter 11, i found super interesting as the proposed appoach by the book differs much to the mainstream industry practises. Highly recommended for DevOps leaders of any industry, as despite its financial services focus, I found it largely being industry agnostic.

Not only for financial services and mostly appliclable to large enterprises
Well written, structured and engaging. The several frameworks included provide good inspiration of practical methodologies, that can support an enterprise DevOps adoption. Though some of them have white text in grey background, which makes them little bit difficult to read. Note: 1) this book is for large and complex enterprises, not for small ones and 2) while the examples come from the financial services industry, i think they are quite industry agnostic in reality.

A very useful and practicel guide for DevOps transformations at scale.
Very well written and rounded across several aspects of adoption DevOps at scale, as well as very insightful in terms of frameworks. I particularly found very interesting the minimum viable adoption, licence to continuously deliver and benefit realization ones. The SRE chapter also provides an interesting approach. What i would have liked to see more of in the book, is practical tips on adopting the proposed models. Note that the book tells an end to end story, so it is advisable not to skip chapters as their are heavily interlinked.

An eye opener on DevOps enterprise in banking
I am soon to graduate with an MSc in Financial Technology and interested in a DevOps career within financial services. I found the book very insightfull on what it takes to transform a financial services insitution using DevOps practises. Unfortunately my lack of industrial experience made me find some parts of the book difficult to understand. Though i recommend it to young professionals interested on a DevOps banking career.

A fresh and well rounded DevOps perspective
Perhaps the only DevOps enterprise adoption book out there, with so many practical frameworks that connect the enterprise DevOps dots. A downside though is that if you skip certain chapters, you might find it difficult to follow. Especially chapters 1 and 2

Very insightful and useful reading
This book is clearly written by real experience in the industry. Well organized and packed with rich frameworks. I would have appreciated though some more insights on the practical lessons learnt of adopting the frameworks, hence dropping one star

Complete, vivid and real
This book provides a fresh perspective on DevOps at enterprise level and especially on scale and relevance. Its content is vivid and relatable if you are engaged into large DevOps transformations. I enjoyed very much the fine balance and linkage between "theorical concepts-practical frameworks-real life situations-personal to the author experiences". Just be aware that is takes DevOps concepts and organizational maturity to an advanced level in some parts. Some chapters like the "compliance as code", "enterprise architecture" and "benefit realization", require solid industry experience to be understood. Perhaps they could be more simplified, hence the dropped star. Surely recommended if you work with DevOps at enterprise scale.
