Certain vintage bulbs don’t work. They won’t screw down due to the bulb near the base hitting the top of the fixture.

I don't know why I didn't assume this when ordering, but this lamp base is HEAVY. Which is great, of course, because that not only denotes the high quality of the materials, but means it'll be stable (though I'd definitely suggest using the old glue-on-a-circle-of-felt trick if you're going to be putting this on a surface that can be scuffed or scratched easily; yes, it's THAT heavy). It's a pipe alright! I think it might actually weigh more than a lot of my "real" lamps. I was a little worried when I placed my order that something so small with just a lightbulb might be unsteady or in danger of getting blown off the table at the first breeze through an open window, but that is no longer even a remote concern. This baby ain't goin' nowhere! More importantly, it works! I haven't dug up my Edison bulbs yet, but I tested it with a regular incandescent bulb. I may have blinded myself, but at least now I can say with 100% assurance that this is the perfect lamp base for anyone who wants industrial or minimalist task lighting. Just make sure to get Edison bulbs!

At the time of purchase, there was only one review on this, so I figured I'd write a review too. This shipped out of United States (Columbia, SC) and got here on time while being fulfilled by Amazon. The base itself is definitely a metal -- it's quite heavy and has a padded bottom to ensure no sliding. The dimmer on the lamp goes well below the 40 - 20w range when going between "Off" and "On" -- in addition to this, the "Off" position on the dimmer has a nice click and that's the fully off position. This lamp definitely compliments the Edison bulbs due to being an exposed bulb style; you might think "well, that's a light directly in the eyes" -- not with the dimmer at all (Edison bulbs are replicas of his designs, they're not suppose to put out much light when compared to today's bulb).Anywho, this was definitely a solid purchase as a little lamp. 10/10 (I wasn't paid for this :D)

The lamp arrived on time and was exactly what I wanted. It is very well made (heavy duty), the dimmer switch works well and is convenient for adjusting the level of light desired. It is small and can fit just about anywhere. I love the steampunk / industrial style!The bulbs I am using are Vintage Edison Bulb 40w - Elfeland Antique Style Incandescent Light Bulb ST58 - Dimmable, which I purchased on Amazon. I've had this light for about a month and a half, and last night I smelled a hot plastic smell after turning it on. Before I could figure out the light was the source of the smell, the on/off/dimmer dial on the light cord started smoking & almost fully started on fire before I unplugged it. I'm not sure why that happened or if there was anything different I could've done to prevent what happened (I was using a 25w dimming edison/birdcage bulb & nothing else was plugged into the same outlet as the light cord). Maybe this is just a one off or a fluke, but I wanted to leave a review in case anyone else experiences the same. It seemed to be of good quality when I received it & it looked nice until the electrical issues occurred.

I bought this lamp base to make a custom lamp using an old metal box. This thing was PERFECT for what I needed. The pad on the bottom can be gently taken off to reveal the wiring connections. I needed to remove the wire to get it in to the box, then reattach the wires. It took about 2 minutes to do this and was super easy. The wires are connected with good quality wire screw nuts (or whatever they are called). The dimmer switch works great, not much to comment on there. The base is solid metal, not a cheaper plastic. It's fairly heavy and seems well built. Overall, if this fits your needs, it's a good quality product.

I love this base because it coordinates perfectly with my retro antique Edison bulb in terms of looks but more importantly, this has a dimmer switch which is perfect for keeping my bulb on low in order to see the beautiful bulb filaments.Not a complaint but If I made these, instead of the antiqueish paint, I would just put them outside in the rain until they start rusting a little bit and then clearcoat them to lock in that beautiful aged and weathered look. Also, I would use old-school, cloth-covered power cords like back in the 40s.Nevertheless, the weight, finish and dimmer makes this a satisfying purchase.
