What if the bk9 had grown up to be a camp knife instead...
A question people may have about it, the choppa or the bk9? Short answer, the choppa. Longer answer, it depends on you. If the tactical aspect is paramount go with the bk9. For anything else it's the choppa, though it would have no problems being used in a tactical manner (i.e. as a fighting knife) it's just the bk9 is a little better. And the choppa is much better at being a camp or woods knife and is certainly a better chopper. It's an inch longer, adding a little more power and doesn't have the clipped point, meaning a little more weight at the chopping end. It's got the finger choil, making it much better at small tasks. It also doesn't have the Becker grip, for me that's great, I've always felt the Becker grip was too big and too round (and I wear size L gloves), this grip is just right, allowing me to close my fingers all the way around it and it's more contoured and geared towards chopping (rather than fighting) and allowing for more grip positions, like the saber or handshake grip, which allows you to hold the blade farther forward for more chopping power and the pinch grip for quick, low powered chops (good for delimbing, brush clearing), and no hook for a pinky hot spot when chopping, it instead flares out in a way very reminiscent of the way an axe handle does to keep your hand on the knife. All these little details add up to it having more power than the bk9 at the same weight, being more versatile and it being just a little better overall than the bk9 (itself an awesome knife for sure). The biggest, only complaint is the sharp angles on the... in the... pommel area, butt end, the opposite end from the tip, the grip scales dig into your hand if you hold it there when chopping. It took me two minutes to sand this smooth enough to eliminate the problem. Other than that no problems whatsoever. Another fine blade from the kabar and yet another knife from them that shows good design and good, thin edge geometry makes a good chopper (as opposed to too thick, too heavy blades with way too wide edge angles). The sheath isn't great either, not bad, but not great. It doesn't matter to me, it fit absolutely perfectly in my condor kumunga camp knife leather sheath (like the sheath was made for it). And I don't baton, but it's got the same steel and heat treat and almost the same geometry as the bk9 so it should be just as good, maybe better because it's spine is nearly straight and no clip point giving you a lot more of usable real estate to hit with the baton while not chewing it up.

One of My Favorites!
This knife came shaving sharp out of the box! I love the blade shape, heft, and grind! The knife is very comfortable in my large size hand, but almost feels a little on the skinny side. I don't think that is a deal breaker though, since I really like this knife!! The cordura sheath is great with MOLLE webbing front and back! I highly recommend the Jarosz Choppa!!!

Excellent chopper
Excellent craftsmanship (as expected from KA-BAR). This knife is a great chopper. It bits into wood nice and deep. Shaved the hair off my arm straight out of the box.The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars and not 5 is because I feel the handle needs a little more "meat" to it. It's the perfect length and the palm swell is just right. But my hand gets fatigued from gripping a handle that's just a little too narrow.KA-BAR offers after market scales for the Becker line. I think they should expand that line to include the Choppa as well.

Impressive quality
I have this too ...love the feel in the hand . Compare this to the semi -custom Bark River Grizzly , in shape (not as high end of steel or course) . But I love this knife, thicker than I thought it would be also , and the choil is useful while plenty of blade left .The material for the handles" Ultramid® handles" a high end plastic like product , is said to be very durable even at low temps , I've read online .

Beast among beasts
I'm an avid collector of about 20 years. I collect performance blades, not the crap you'd find in a gas station. This kabar caught my eye. Its hefty, solid, came semi sharp. But after about 30min on my worksharp sharpener it shaved the hair off my arm. I highly recommend this blade to anyone looking for a good, solid all-around knife. Not as beefy as the bk9 but a perfect hybrid of a chopper and a bushcrafter.

(update: disappointing).. A really cool looking & beautiful knife; but......
(Third Week of Jan. 2021: I just received my replacement order today AND the replacement knife is ALSO used with a minor damages on the handle! THIS IS my last Ka-Bar purchase through this site!).. 2nd week of Jan. 2021- I just had this product delivered today: The one star is based receiving an expected brand new $100+ knife but instead I got a possible used product.. (a) the handle & blade had dirty fingerprints that I had to clean off for 30min.. (b) The original box had some damage; so I was on the alert.. (c) The blade upon opening was already in the Sheath. (That's not how a new Ka-Bar is packed) The cardboard blade protector was laying next to the fully sheathed knife.. For the Sake of Transparency: I've purchased a couple dozen higj end knives from Amazon.. I usually buy Ka-Bar Or Kizlyar.. (I know what I'm expecting & to look for).. I give good reviews based on the quality of the product & how it is received; like the expected New Condition that I paid for.. Pro's: a beautiful, durable feeling, very sharp knife.. Con's: the handle is too small in length and too slim- the thickness needs a lot of work.. The Sheath is Cool: but needs an additional snap & straps as a redundancy to keep the blade extra secure.. Like the BK10, BK2, etc....

Awesome!!
Wow!!! What a knife. I Love everything about it. The balance is perfect. The finger choil is perfect. The handle is very comfortable with multiple grip options (because of the smooth and sleek handle scales I would highly recommend a lanyard) The overall look of this knife is just sexy! When I first opened the package I was a little disappointed because this knife is not as big and menacing as some of my other survival knives, but I swung it at a 2X4 in my shop and was instantly sold. This knife buried deep into the board with very little effort. Its a winner in my book so I bought the Turok and Globetrotter as well which are equally impressive.

Good knife, good value
Good knife. Feels lighter than you'd expect. Razor sharp out of the box.Sheath isn't great, but it does what it's supposed to. I wear a size small glove and this knife fits perfect in my hand. That being said the handle is small, people with larger hands might have an issue getting a comfortable grip. Good knife, good value, happy with the purchase.
