great book.
i dont have a bandsaw just yet but i am getting one in about a week. i wanted to learn about them a little before i did so would be better prepared to make the right decision on which saw to buy. this book was very helpful. it has everthiong you need to know in general about bandsaws blades and how to tune your bandsaw. i was able to make well educated decisions on which saw to buy and what blades i needed to do certain jobs. this book tells you all the things the bandsaw can do and how to do them and which blades are recomended to do it. he is very clear on his directions and the overall quality of the book is excellent. color photos are great too. mostly for someone who is new to bandsaws this book will teach you everything you need to know. i read this book cover to cover and now i know what i need to know about bandsaws. now all that is left is getting the actual experince using it. something no book can teach you. definatly one of the best books in my woodworking library.

Very good book, but missing some stuff about setup and troubleshooting
As the other reviewers state, this is really a great book. The information on how to use your bandsaw, different types of saws, bandsaw blades, and general setup of your saw is very good. One spot that I was disappointed was in detailed setup of the new bandsaw, or troubleshooting tracking problems. Basically Mr. Bird says that if your wheels are not coplanar or balanced, you should get a new saw. Also he simply states that a properly tensioned bandsaw blade will center itself.I bought a new Ridgid bandsaw, and I had to do a few minor adjustments that were critical to the operation. These were not covered in the manual for the saw or in this book.Maybe the two problems I had with the Ridgid saw were very unique? Anyways, besides these items the book is very good! Perhaps try the "The New Complete Guide to the Band Saw" by Mark Duginske. I flipped a coin on which book I was going to get. Maybe it should have landed heads instead of tails .....!

Every bandsaw owner should have this!
Along with Mark Duginske's "The Bandsaw Handbook" this book by Lonnie Bird should make a suitable match for your library. Both books together pretty much cover everything you need to know about using and maintaining, and setting up a bandsaw for best operation. While both books cover similar topics, this one seems a little more up to date content and style-wise, although the content hasn't really needed to be changed much over the years... The same basic bandsaw design exists on modern machines that existed on many older ones. The photographs and clear and the text is easy to read. After reading and further adjustment of my bandsaw, it now cuts extremely well and tracks accurately. Worthwhile piece of literature!

Nailed It
Very informative. This book has clearly written instructions that enabled me to rejuvenate a 27 year-old Taiwanese Band Saw that I bought second hand. The saw cuts straighter, cleaner, etc.I also learned how to select blades, and how to adjust and maintain the saw.Additionally, the book contains a lot of information regarding the selection and purchase of saws, both new and used, which will come in handy when I purchase a better saw in the future. The book was in very good but obviously used condition when I received it and has held up well.My hearty endorsement to the author and to Amazon.

Operating a bandsaw
The book is somewhat dated though the information is generally accurate and useful. A great companion for the novice bandsaw user and a nice collection of jigs and suggestions to have.

Must read if looking for first bandsaw
I bought this book because I've been in the market for my first bandsaw for a few months. I've been researching the topic a lot and came across a recommendation for this book in a forum somewhere. Given Amazon's great price I thought what they heck. I found this book to be very informative and pointed out a lot of things I should be looking at when determining which saw to buy that I had not though of. It did this without knocking any brands or given slanted praise to any brand either which I really liked. I don't really like taking a recommendation from an author who recommends a brands that sponsors him. Definitely worth the money and the time.

Book and service very good
This is the last review I will do.The process and length of review is to cumbersome. If you what to develop a shorter check off system I would consider participating again. All items I have purchased were good,I enjoy doing business will your company and will continue to do so, but do not send any more requests for reviews unless you streamlined the system.ThanksDan

Gutes Buch!!

Has the lot!
I have a professional woodwork shop. I bought a bandsaw second hand and struggled for a couple of months to try and set it up properly. I was just about to give up when I came across this book. Lonnie Bird goes through a complete set up from beginning to end, which I followed to the letter. Now I have a bandsaw that works exactly as I had hoped it would. As well as set up he goes through every thing you could possibly use a bandsaw for, some of which I wouldn't have even thought of!Highly recommended
