Wee Sing In The Marvelous Musical Mansion

A nostalgic favorite, but very grainy!
I was delighted to see my old favorite movie available on Amazon, especially when I found out I was pregnant with my baby son. I couldn't wait to share it with him.The movie is a simple story about a group of kids, two brothers and their friend, visiting their eccentric aunt and uncle in their uncle's magically musical and musically magical mansion. The uncle can turn on these fantastic music boxes where the figures become alive and really dance and sing, and in the excitement of showing these boxes to the kids, the uncle forgets to turn one off. That morning, they find that some of the instruments and clothes have gone missing from the the music box figures, and it's up to the friend, who is an amateur detective, to solve the mystery of the stolen stuff.Stuff I love: the music is wonderful. The songs are a mix of familiar folk songs like She'll Be Comin' 'Round the Mountain and Viva L'Companie, sweet original songs like the Magic of Music, nursery rhymes like Hickory Dickory Dock, and surprisingly educational songs like the Tap-A Capella Singers and the Doodle Det Quintet. The movie also doesn't try to tax its child actors into singing anything they can't really handle (which is a mercy for the parents, believe me) and instead depends on excellent adult singers and dancers to carry the show. I also love the diversity of the cast, both the 'real' people and the music box figures.Stuff I don't love: the video quality is very grainy. I think it must have originally been filmed on VHS or the only copy they had left was on VHS. On any sort of higher definition screen, it's rough.

Receiver was thrilled
I got this for a fourth grader who claimed it was his favorite movie. I gave it to him as a reward for performing in the music class. I am happy that 10-year-olds still love wholesome movies like this.Great storyline and a positive message for kids!

Great teaching tool!
If you are looking for a way to introduce the "boring" part of music - theory - to your elementary music classes look no further! It wasn't until I was watching this movie with a 4th grade class during my student teaching that I realized that part of the reason I understood so much about music was due to watching this video over and over as a child. I often tell people that the reason I chose to play the French horn is because the lady who plays the horn in the Doodle Det Quintet wore pink! Now that I have a classroom, and need to come up with new ideas as to how to introduce different musical ideas, I often turn to this video. One day while watching the video I decided to write down questions and have created a worksheet for my students. With questions like:Q. Who is the time keeper of the clock, that also tells us what time signature a piece of music is written?Q. What are the musical terms explained in Tap A Capella Singers, and what do they mean? Not to mention songs that are a great introduction to different topics such as musical terms (Tap A Capella singers), instrument families (Doodle Det Quintet), rounds (Ruben and Rachel), and writing melodies (The Melody Song). If you are an elementary music teacher, this video is great investment!!

Timeless fun for the whole family to enjoy!
I love the Wee Sing collection, but this story is the most loved in my family. We watched this when my kids were little and now they are watching it with their own children. So much fun to sing with, very entertaining and good story line.

Terrific videos for young kids
Terrific videos for young kids. Fun and entertaining. No worries about them watching this over and over!! Learning all the songs is great for developing memory. The characters are endearing and always a great message. My kids are now successful hard working young adults with tender hearts and great character. I know a lot goes in to that, but everything counts, and they watched may of the Wee Sing videos over and over!!!

Odd but kids love it.
So, I heard great things about this from other music teachers. I decided to get it for a sub to show to my younger grades. When I previewed, I tbought it was odd but decided to go with it anyway. Kids are mesmerized by this movie.

For kids that love music and a little mystery
For kids that love music and a little mystery, this a great movie. The movie also used lots of musical terms for kids to learn.
