Safe, sturdy, good looking, easy to assemble, hard to open... perfect gate for top of stairs!
After searching high and low for a gate for the top of my stairs, I decided to give this one a try. I'm so happy I did! The gate looks good and it's sturdy. It was very easy to install, even with me being 7-months pregnant and having my toddler bouncing around trying to mess with the screws, it only took me about an hour from box to first use installing it on drywall. The hardest part was finding the stupid studs!I was a little worried about the safety of it, being that my son is 2 and we haven't used a baby gate consistently before, save for a pressure mounted one every now and then for a specific thing, like baking a cake and keeping him off the oven, but this gate feels very safe even when he has tried to open it, which he hasn't accomplished (we're working on "leave the gate alone please"). Most adults that come visiting can't open it without either asking how or studying the mechanism up close, which makes me happy. The open-close mechanism is EASY to use but HARD to figure out for a child. I like that it's very counter-intuitive, hence very safe. The gate is all metal, so I think it will last a long time. Maybe I'll have to adjust the screws every now and then, but I think that's something I would do with ANY gate mounted at the top of my stairs. The width is seamlessly easy to adjust, and works perfectly for my 31" wide stairwell.Again, it looks way better than anything else I considered or bought (I returned a couple ones before buying this gate). I would highly recommend it to anyone that asks me :)

Worth every penny
I spent about 4 hours researching gates for my now 11 month old and I wish I found this gate first. Shoppers should be mindful that not all gates are appropriate for your given situation. We needed something for the top of the stairs so pressure gates could not be used. When you think about it, all gates are used for security and are usually all metal for that reason. I did not like that other brands were made out of materials that could easily break with any given force (i.e., plastic notches and cheap wood). This gate met ALL of our needs. I called our handyman to install it because we absolutely hate putting things together. He didn't call back so I got to work as my baby was dashing toward the stairs every chance he got. I was very impressed with how easy this was to install. My advice would be to check for studs so that you will know if you need to drill or not. I used long anchor screws instead of the included screws for our drywall just to ensure that the system was secure in the wall.I liked that it could swing both ways but that you could stop it from swinging one way- this is what we did for safety so that our baby could not swing it over the stairs. It's light but very sturdy, has a clean design, there are no parts to trip on, it swings fully out of your way, it's easy to install, all metal and despite what others have reported, I find it easy to open and close, even with one hand. It can be a little tricky sometimes because you have to hold two notches down at the same time and then pull up to open the gate. However, my baby is fascinated and I watched him try to play with the notches for 5 minutes trying to figure it out! This is at 11 months! So I'm thankful that the gate opening is not so simplified that my baby can figure it out. I understand why others would be annoyed with the latch though, but it's still easy to use. I chose this one over the auto lock model because the auto lock feature seemed like it was super loud when the gate closed! That noise would annoy us and this manual gate works just perfectly.

DONT LISTEN TO THE BAD REVIEWS! BUY THIS NOW!
The media could not be loaded. *excuse the laundry 🧺 at the bottom of my stairs*OKAY GUYS LISTEN! I was skeptical too because of the mixed reviews and people saying how it’s difficult to open and close and this and that. I am here to tell you i set this up by myself in about an hour cuz i sat my butt down on a stool and took my time but yall could probably get it done in 30 min with a partner. Listen if you follow the assembly video in the picture description at the top and do it right you won’t have any issues with this gate! This gate is 100% solid and safe! There is no way my toddler is going to get thru it. Now as far as opening and closing the gate with one hand like most of the reviews complained about; it’s easy! I have no idea what they’re talking about. I think ppl are trying to pull those two little levers on the latch up to open it and throats wrong. You are supposed to take your index finger and thumb and push them down like your 🤏 pinching something and lift the gate up with the 2 back fingers (ring finger and pinky!) and it’s literally so easy to open and close with one hand holding a baby or groceries or whatever! It’s not rocket science guys! You may have to show an adult or the older kiddos how to do it the first time but after that it should be a breeze! There is no way a toddler can figure it out. I’m telling you if you set it up right and watch the simple video carefully this will do what it’s supposed to do but if your impatient rushing trying to run thru it well you will make mistakes and it won’t do what it’s supposed to. I absolutely love it and I give it 5 stars! If anything changes I will come back and let yall know but so far I feel like I got my moneys worth!! I highly recommend this product.
