Great additional layer of security. They are for hollow axle wheels so the skewer rod itself simply slides through the metal tube that the bike frame/fork sits on. Therefore, be sure to let the frame sit firmly on the hollow steel axle before tightening the skewer which sits inside it. Otherwise, the weight of the load will have to pass through the thin skewer rod rather than the hollow axle which is supposed to take most of the load (your skewer might break). Regarding the security, it is not a perfect lock-and key system, but they certainly help increase the time it takes for someone to take your wheel (it takes me longer to get the wheel off too). Nevertheless, I beleive this is a better wheel guard than simple bolts or allen wrench skewers. Sure you can deffeat it with conventional tools, but atleast it requires unconventional methods of tampering to do it.

Their online registration system does not work as advertised (it was actually impossible to find from within the sight, I used a google site specific search for terms from the box to find the page.)The skewers themselves seem ok-ish, in fact I like them overall, except the design for the key mechanism is not precise or tall enough. The key does not sit well in the slots, and is so large and wide that it hits hardware screwed into bosses. This is super inconvenient, and encourages not tightening the skewers all the way. It also wears the key out more quickly, which seems to be made from soft aluminium (smart choice). It looks like they have an actual socket that would be much better to use, but they only sell it to shops. -1 star for a crap key that increases poor installation (and all the harms that come from it.)That said, once on, they seem like they will do the trick. I played around with them a bit and do think they would deter all but the most determined, or well equipped, thieves.I would hate to have to change a tire on the road with these on, and will probably switch back to quick release or a different brand of locking nut before touring. I don't trust the durability of the key, and it is too inconvenient/untrustworthy to use it without removing hardware.If they sold a steel consumer socket (so only works with your nut type), I would give this one 5 stars.

I got a flat today. Having left my key at home, I found and followed another reviewer's instructions and easily removed the rear skewer with an "L" style Allen wrench. I discovered at the same time that most of the front skewer nut was missing. I'm not sure how or when it happened, but the friction ring was left behind and fractured, so it seems likely a failure induced by either a defect or an attempted theft. (Lots of that in SF.) My local bike shop recommended Pin Heads, but they are pricey.

San Diego, like many California urban centers, has a large homeless population and it happens to be a great city for bicyclists and the weather can't be beat. Unfortunately parts will be stolen off of your bicycle, for example I had a fork skewer stolen off my bike in a an area that had a fair of amount of foot traffic. Even though you lock your wheel with a cable, the skewer is easy to take, so the Delta Cycle KnoxNut is a worthwhile investment. No one has messed with my KnoxNut since it was installed. It does need to be tightened every so often, though. So keep the key in your backpack.

Well, it does the job, person without any tool can't take your wheel.But the key is the same for everyone - I don't know why they pretend it's different.Also the key is super soft - don't expect it to last long.

I live in a bike town where theft is common and I feel more secure with these on my bike. If you're concerned about weight or anything these probably aren't for you. I right a steel bianchi volpe which looks kind of old-timey, so these look good on my bike. They are straightforward to use and seem pretty tamper proof. I stopped locking my wheels when I lock my bike and I haven't had any problems.

A good concept but failure to execute to prevent theft. Anyone who knows how to use an Allen wrench, can figure out how to take the skewer set apart. Why register a cheap aluminum key if you can remove it with an Allen wrench? My daughter does triathlons and her bicycle is very important to her. I was going to give her this for her bike (because it is expensive), so she could feel secure knowing that her wheel would be safe. Not now. If they want to make this secure, they need to come up with something other than the key that comes with it and other than an Allen wrench in case of key loss.

Nice skewers, decent level of security, could probably open with any pliers or leatherman. But still serve their purpose as a deterrent. They are heavy! Seriously heavy each skewer is probably the weight of at least 4 normal ones, so it’s like having 8 skewer on your bike instead of 2. But at least the weight is down low.
