Anyone who has attempted live trading for 5 minutes will understand the need to master the mind; that's what this book is for...
Excellent book that should be part of the library of any stock trader. A theory I heard long ago is that any source of information that provides even one or two new things that become a critical part of your life is extremely valuable. This book has the potential to provide many significant ideas, inspirations and real tools to help the beginning stock trader, as well as characterizing and focusing topics even for a more advanced trader.Anyone who has attempted live trading for 5 minutes or more with real money on the line will quickly understand that an extreme factor, if not "the" factor in trading success will be the mental approach, temperament, ability to master emotion, and developing tools and skills to deal with these aspects. This book focuses like a laser beam on this subject, and I was amazed at it's description of exactly the kinds of experiences I've been having, it's definition of well known stages which gave me new information 1) on exactly where I am on the skills curve, 2) where I fit in, 3) to understand that all is normal and I am not alone, 4) and that there are real tools and specific work as detailed in the book that will cause me to advance and develop. It's a straightforward read, entertaining but in language suitable for a wide audience, and it can be finished in a day or two. That said, it's fairly focused and concise, and I found it a perfect legnth with very valuable information. One of the additional things it provides are many pointers and references to further information on presented topics, so it's a great jumping off point. As well, it is the kind of book I would like to reread every so often to remind myself of the topics covered and to reconsider my latest progress. In this respect I don't want such a book to be 1000 pages of tiny type.I have to answer one criticism in particular that I read which was something like...I read the book and there was no Holy Grail. To someone with that type of feedback my first quick thought is "oh boy! This guy *really* didn't get the book" and second "that someone would miss the point so badly...really worries me about their chances of success in an industry where the overwhelming majority of new day traders (especially) are going to fail. I would recommend to such people that they need to reread the book about 20 times until they get it, and simply trust me that this book was written to attempt to help *exactly such a person*; these people need it more than anyone! That said, to be of any use you have to come with an open mind. This is not a book on how to study corporate fundamentals or study charts. It is about "your mind" and how to improve and deal with "your mind." So if you come with a mind that simply will not be modified, improved, considered or moved in any way, ok then, the book isn't going to do anything for you. It's like anything else. You are going to get out of it what you are willing to put in. In the end what you find out is, the Holy Grail (just my opinion) is "you." It is...your ability to master the topics presented, as a start by some of the tools and methods provided in the book, and by your ability to follow up and grow from there. But no, you don't just read the book and now you a day trader with 20 years experience. lolIn the end, man I am loving this book and some of the other resources provided by Doc and other associates of his. I have absolutely no association with any of them aside from being a consumer of information like this book and really finding it helpful and valuable as part of my journey to transition to trading as a career.

Good quick read on getting reliable income from trading.
A fairly quick read with plenty of good insights on what it takes to make a reliable income from trading. However, if you are looking for The Answer, it's not here. My best takeaway was "if you treat trading like a business, it will pay you like a business. If you treat it like a hobby, it will be a VERY expensive hobby."

Good book
A basic book that takes you through the stages to become a good trader. Anyone who has been around has heard most of this stuff. The part about making a system your own so you have confidence in it was important to me. Also to set a business and trading plan. This book will only be of value if you implement the ideas.

An Excellent Book on Trading
Doc Severson tells it like it is. He gives some great advice and presents it in story form (narrative) and in the standard academic way. You can't go wrong with listening to Doc Severson. My trading has improved. I am trying to focus on NOT searching for the Holy Grail but making the most out of a trading system/plan that fits me and that I can use in a disciplined way.

I highly recommend this
Doc's book helps explain the mental state you need to be in so that you can properly trade. While there are no strategies explained here, there is much more important information on how to prepare yourself so that you can succeed. Everyone will be able to identify themselves in this book ang understand the steps you need to take to take your trading career to the next level. I highly recommend this book
