So, a slate isn't a general use product; you know whether you need one of these. If you do, is this a good one to get? I think so; it seems lightweight but reasonably sturdily made, has the colors across the top, makes the nice sharp 'clack' you need, and has nicely marked space to write your takes and other background info. It also has an easily adjustable hinge with a small key to tighten or loosen it to exactly your comfort level, so if it's too stiff or floppy, that's easy to fix.In the old days these were written on with chalk, nowadays it's a whiteboard that takes an dry erase marker. This one comes with that extra bit of equipment, and if there were a way to attach everything together, I'd give it five stars. Still, it does the job nicely, has extra pens and a small dry eraser, and comes in a thick cardboard box that you can use as storage for it; and the price is right. I'm happy with it.

Whats on the front of the board is all the info you need to know to keep your action organized. I've watched many,many tv shows and movies being made from being a part time background artist without completely knowing what these people with the little board were doing. They were keeping tract of all the data needed to know where all the filmed scenes could be found when the film rapped or the tv show had all its parts. Knowing where its all at made the editors job a whole lot easier. Great little product for the wishful movie producer like me.

Looked like the perfect thing, until we actually used it. Markers are worthless, won’t stick to anywhere and we’re dried up. Bought new markers elsewhere and those were great. The board did clean easily but the board itself fell apart during the scene 1 of a 10 scene on location shoot. Really left the film crew in the lurch. Complete junk unless you are using it for decoration alone.

I made this purchase on a whim an impulse buy if you will.. I will use this clap board as a background prop or set decoration.I see nothing wrong with its construction, the materials its is made with appear sturdy enough for proper use.

It works for what I needed. But after five days of using it, the clapper part broke and had to reattach with wires to still function. But still got what I needed with it and it erased well.

Overall this is a great slate! I create films quite often and I was just dying for a slate, this has plenty of room to write on and comes with plenty of markers and erasers even comes with a Allen wrench to tighten and loosen the slate! Definitely recommend!
