Q: Is this needed for a summer waves that is using intex sand pump. Looking to add salt water system to current intex pump?

I love the salt system. I have had it for 3 summers and last summer I only had to add 1/2 a bottle of algaeside, a bottle of stabilizer and 2 gallons of liquid chlorine when I opened the pool-that’s it, all summer. I have my sand filter on a timer and run it all night while my chlorine generator is running. Keeping the stabilizer around 100ppm is key and follow the salt recommendation of the generator.

Q: I have a Hayward pool above ground skimmer can I use these off the skimmer to attach the intex filter hose?

Yes. I used it to connect a Hayward pump to an Intex hose.

Q: cannot tighten 1 1/2" 38mm intex hose nuts to these. They snug up OK but slip/cock thread when you try to tighten them. Anyone else have this issue?

I had the same issue with the 40mm nuts on Intex filter hoses. I used a hose clamp on the nut to keep the nut from expanding. Just tighten the clamp just enough to still be able to rotate the nut.

Yes, the 1-1/2 inch portion of the adapter should screw directly into the bottom of the Hayward skimmer. The hose from the pump connects to the 40mm end of the adapter.
