Bad News Good News
A friend and I each bought the Montem Folding 3K Carhon Fiber Poles. Received them exactly as Amazon promised. There were no instructions but its a no brainer to put them together. Each folding piece fits into each other. I tried and tried to get the folding pieces to fit into each other but to no avail. I pushed so hard that I thought I was going to break it. I got the pieces started but they got stuck. When I pulled them apart the glue on the insert pieces failed and came apart. I was about ready to send them back. Both poles I had exactly the same problem.I had some 5 minute two part hobby epoxy and glued the inserts back into the body. Once I had all the inserts glued back in I tried to put it together. Each piece then fit into each other perfectly. They worked great. I don't have a clue what happened the first time. I didn't do anything differently. Actually I'm glad they came apart as I think my glue will hold it better. I don't want any mishaps on the trail. Now the good news. I walked 6 miles with the poles today and they are great. Their almost to light but they are very sturdy. Very little flex, if any, in them. I was able to push down on them, as I walked, as hard as I wanted to and they didn't bend. I like the fact that they are compact when folded. Fits into my backpack easily. Appears that they are well made. The straps are adjustable. I used them on concrete, gravel, country roads and the tip didn't wear a bit. With the exeception of the problems I had putting them together I'd give them an A. I would have given them 5 stars if wouldn't have been for the assembly problems. I'd buy again.

Using the poles hard
Poles are light, collapse nicely and feel good in the hand. There are a few things to know about them. When you assemble the poles (connect the 3 joints) you need to tighten/twist the joint together we'll, to the point that I thought was too hard. If you don't and you stick the pole into deep mud and then quickly pull them out they will come apart, like I did on the South Island of New Zealand and fell into a mud pit and to make matters worse I had to reach down and fish out the bottom pole joint, when it was pissing down rain, knee deep in mud and the sandfly's were thick. Kind of pissed me off. Also, you need to watch the amount of weight you put on the poles. I'm 190lbs and carrying a 25lb pack and there were a couple of times that I had to lean on the poles hard and I saw them bow and had to released my grip before they broke in half resulting in a tumble. I got pissed off again. They are not as strong as my old Leki aluminum poles but are really nice when travelling by bus, plane and boats where non-collapasble poles would be a hassle.

Item as described
Took a couple of times to get together but after seeing the trick - no problem. Looking forward to using them. Seem to be sturdy for my light hiking

Terrible Design and Customer Service
My wife bought these poles at the same time as I purchased the equivalent made by Black Diamond. From the start, her poles were very hard to lock into usable position, despite a video that purports to demonstrate how to perform this essential operation. After 100 yards on the trail, she would wind up with the lower component unattached and dangling uselessly. Our experienced trail guide tried and couldn't achieve a stable position. Then, the internal, connective "bungee cord" broke entirely (see picture). I suppose I might not have gotten around to writing this review were it not for the return policies of the Montem Life company: 30 days and return in perfect condition. Evidently, they won't stand behind their product. Meanwhile, I've had no problems with my poles.

Defective upon receipt - May2021
Bought these direct from Montez......one of the poles was defective upon receipt. The piece which connects the lower section of the pole to the middle section broke, so the bottom piece falls off. Impossible to use. Not sure if the piece is glued in....don’t see any glue residue or just broke. Earlier review had the same issue and glued them back together, so if you like finishing the product manufacturing...buy these poles. Otherwise buyer beware. Now on to the fun of filling a warranty claim....their web site for warranty registration doesn’t seem to work.
