Rock solid for eight years!
Since I had to replace my router today (it seems I have bad luck with routers) it got me to thinking about my actual modem, which has been rock solid for eight years, and shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. This thing just works, period. Speeds are exactly what my Xfinity provider claims. I have no hiccups, no dropouts, nothing like that at all. It's just a reliable workhorse!I know this review is a super late, and probably nobody is buying this thing anymore. But for those of you who need something cheap and used, you can't do much better than this!I'm not selling mine though, as I would miss it too much : p If I ever do need to upgrade to something faster, I'll be getting Arris for sure.

Arris WBM760A Touchstone DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem
Arris WBM760A Touchstone DOCSIS 3.0 Cable ModemI read the reviews and took a chance, the end result was exactly as a few others had reported. I chose that make and model because it was exactly what I was currently using from Comcast. From day one it drove me nuts, I did all the required things associated with registering and getting it on line with Comcast and it worked perfectly for a while, then the modem would drop off line and I would have to reset both the modem and my router. Many times when the internet was not working the lights on the modem were absolutely normal so it was hard to know where the problem was. I used my laptop to access the "control panel" to view the network status when it was off line. It worked sometimes for two or more hours and then shut off. This pattern kept repeating itself and I finally called Comcast and a technician came out and said that the serial number for the modem was not registered in the system. I had previously done this by phone and in person when I returned the Comcast modem to their office. When he left the modem was working great, this lasted about two hours and it again lost its connection to the internet. I got it working again and did more research. I shut the system down for the night and the next morning it was again not working. Based on the web replies I determined that the firmware for the modem was out of date. I called the manufacturer and they verified that the firmware was from 2009. They further told me that the warranty had expired on the modem in Feb of 2012. they also did state that they would honor the warranty based on my purchase date if I submitted proof of purchase. This was an additional problem and not one worth the trouble if I could not get the firmware updated. During this process and with the cable tech from Comcast the name of "Surfboard" came up, it was more expensive but seemed to have good reviews. Also I saw that the newer modems had built in routers for Wi-fi, and that made me think. I sent an email to Amazon about returning the modem and barely got through the return process before the internet shut down again. Amazon was very quick and efficient about the return but would not apply towards a new item but only would give me credit, this was okay with me. I returned the modem and went back to Comcast for a new replacement modem, while there I asked if they had the type of modem with built in Wi-fi. They did and it was only available with the "Premium Package" Which I just happened to have. I said I would give it a try and after activation the new modem and Wi-fi combination works perfectly (as it should). It was all because of the updates that the Arris WBM760A Touchstone DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem needed causing it to keep going offline. Since it was not easily fixed, I felt the $7.00 a month to Comcast was worth the peace of mind. My thinking and research shows that the current process used by Comcast is going to be outdated and obsolete in a few years so I will stay with their modem until then. The built in Wi-fi is the way to go, if it ever goes off line it should reset itself without my help. I cannot recommend the 760A because it was not a good experience for me.I read the reviews and took a chance, the end result was exactly as a few others had reported. If you love a person, how can you destroy his or her freedom? If you trust a person, you trust her or his freedom too.One day it happened that a man came to me who was really in a mess, very miserable. And he said, 'I will commit suicide.'I said, 'Why?'He said, 'I trusted my wife and she has betrayed me. I had trusted her absolutely and she has been in love with some other man. And I never came to know about it until just now! I have got hold of a few letters. So then I inquired, and then I insisted, and now she has confessed that she has been in love all the time. I will commit suicide' he said.I said, 'You say you trusted her?'He said, 'Yes, I trusted her and she betrayed me.'What do you mean by trust?—some wrong notion about trust; trust also seems to be political.'You trusted her so that she would not betray you. Your trust was a trick. Now you want to make her feel guilty. This is not trust.'He was very puzzled. He said, 'What do you mean by trust then, if this is not trust? I trusted her unconditionally.'I said, 'If I were in your place, trust would mean to me that I trust her freedom, and I trust her intelligence, and I trust her loving capacity. If she falls in love with somebody else, I trust that too. She is intelligent, she can choose. She is free, she can love. I trust her understanding.'What do you mean by trust? When you trust her intelligence, her understanding, her awareness, you trust it. And if she finds that she would like to move into love with somebody else, it is perfectly okay. Even if you feel pain, that is your problem; it is not her problem. And if you feel pain, that is not because of love, that is because of jealousy. What kind of trust is this, that you say it has been betrayed? My understanding of trust is that it cannot be betrayed. By its very nature, by its very definition, trust cannot be betrayed. It is impossible to betray trust. If trust can be betrayed, then it is not trust. Think over it.If I love a woman, I trust her intelligence infinitely. And, if in some moments she wants to be loving to somebody else, it is perfectly good. I have always trusted her intelligence. She must be feeling like that. She is free. She is not my other half, she is independent. And when two persons are independent individuals, only then there is love. Love can flow only between two freedoms. tvis204I have seen couples who have lived together for thirty or forty years; still, they seem to be as immature as they were on their first day together. Still the same complaint: "She doesn't understand what I am saying." Forty years being together and you have not been able to figure out some way that your wife can understand exactly what you are saying, and you can understand exactly what she is saying. But I think there is no possibility for it to happen except through meditation, because meditation gives you the qualities of silence, awareness, a patient listening, a capacity to put yourself in the other's position. It is possible with me: I am not concerned with the trivia of your life. You are here basically to listen and understand. You are here to grow spiritually. enligh16
