works with esp32 devkit
I use this with ESP32 DevKit C and the NanoFramework Interop assemblies. Thinking about disconnecting the CP2102 on the DevKit so the programming port on the ESP32 Prog can be used. I also tried to use it for debugging on Visual Micro with the ESP32, and PlatformIO on the ESP32; I was unsuccesfull which may not mean it can't be done.Update: It works reliably with the latest update for Visual Micro's ESP32 supporting package.

Sure, you need to debug somehow
Plenty of articles online for how to use this board.

This will accelerate your troubleshooting.
This is a great little helper to debug your esp32. I have soldered dupont connectors to the included cables for easy connection. Using platform io I can now debug step by step into the code and find out what's going on. I highly recommend this item to anyone who programs esp32 micro controllers; it can help beginners to understand programming and it can help advanced users to find difficult issues.

Great little ESP32 Debugger for PlatformIO
Perfect JTAG debugger for ESP32 .I was having issues with some code and needed to peek under the hood for what was causing a kernel crash. This little guy and PlatformIO provided a quick seamless setup to watch the variables while code is running on the microcontroller. You don’t need inline debugging all the time but when you do, having one of these around is priceless.

Best way I've found to debug ESP32 devices
It was easy to setup and works smoothly in my development environment (PlatformIO/VSCode in Linux). The only drawback or limitation I have found thus far is the development board must have the JTAG pins (12-15) broken out or available via header, obviously, but this is generally the case.Recommended.
