Drive Medical14029 Med-Aire Low Air Loss Mattress Replacement System with Alternating Pressure, Blue

After spending 3 months in hospital and rehab center, wound care specialists would not let my mom come home until we ordered this mattress. Better than anything she had in rehab/ hospital, those are only about 2 inches thick. This is a full 7-8 inch thick mattress. Heavy, but got it on the bed frame myself. Fully inflated in about 3 hours. It had to be ready when transport brought her home. This was a stage 4 wound, part of tailbone was exposed. Every wound nurse that came to the home to maintain the wound vac therapy remarked that this was an excellent mattress. After 6 months if a wound could be downgraded they said mom's wound came down to a 1-2 stage, and tailbone was no longer exposed. The control panel stays at the patients weight setting even when the power came back on. It does beep and red light to alert you, soon as electricity came back on it stopped beeping and re- inflated fully, only lost small amount of air for 15 min. outage. It has the red CPR belt in case paramedics need it. It is strong too, a medic stood on it a few seconds to get her on the gurney and take her out. Regular twin size fitted sheets fit good. It is fully waterproof vinyl cover that we wiped down with bath cleaner on a rag when mom was in hospital before coming back. She was unable to move herself, so this mattress did flex with the semi automatic bed frame to raise her head up completely. We used stuffer pillows too, to get her on her side. We could push down and change her incontinence pads from the front without disturbing her and mattress can take it, very strong. It quietly shifts the pressure about every 8 min, only faint sound of air, nothing that scared her. I have nothing bad to say. It arrived in 3 days with prime shipping.

The mattress is great. But the first one we ordered very quickly started leaking to the point that three or four cells at the head stopped inflating. It was a chore to get it replaced. Manufacturer said we had to talk to the retailer. The retailer was difficult. Finally I got to a man at the manufacturer who replaced the pump without a problem. But that didn't solve the issue. So I had to call the manufacturer again. The manufacturer ended up replacing the whole mattress as well. That, obviously, solved the problem, and now we have two pumps and two mattresses, since the manufacturer didn't want us to return the ones that were replaced. I figure that they will be good for scavenging replacement parts, especially of the cells in the mattress, should we have more problems. We never did find a leak. I expect that it was in one of the hoses that feed the cells in the mattress. We are very happy with the mattress itself now that we have one that works. It's great for helping hold down bed sores, and it is comfortable for my wife, who is bedridden. The service was friendly enough--just a bunch of hassle.

This is the 3rd 14029 I've purchased over the years. The pumps last about 3 years. The mattress has had 4 straps on each side previously. The one I received has 3. So the middle strap sits right on a joint. Over time it is going to shred leaving the mattress sliding as I transfer in. I'm not happy considering there are NO RETURNS ACCEPTED for this product.

Sellers, if you are reading this, you accidentally put some dental instruments in the box with the mattress.

Review is that I have only had this mattress up for little over one week and now find that the company, Amazon I purchased it from has it on sale for $100 less. I purchased it Nov. 8. I think there should be a credit for my excess as a good and faithful customer? The mattress seems to be working as designed, but, my husbands bed sore is worse since switching out his mattress. I hope this is just a coincidence and that it will improve with this mattress. Mattress doesn't really give instructions on its use or what works best etc. trial and error?

This is an awesome mattress for preventing bedsores. The best on the market hands down. Piece of cake to install too. And here the price is fair. I was quoted as high as $2,900 elsewhere.Edit to add: My wife was having pretty constant bed sores using another alternating mattress. A few of which were extremely serious. This mattress was mentioned by the director of the Wound Care department at the hospital which was good enough for me. She never had another bed sore and I give full credit to this mattress. She was completely immobile but always said she was comfortable.To me this is the Mercedes of alternating mattresses. Now, there are Bentley mattresses out there that are completely different (beds of beads and other types) but those are thousands of $$$ and I'm not convinced they're any better. Excellent customer service too.In case you can't tell, I'm a huge fan of this mattress.

This mattress should get five stars in all categories, but I took one star off because in 2023, with all of modern technology in front of us, and at a $1200 price point, there is no reason for this thing not to have a remote of some sort, be it wired to the control box, wireless, or an app in order for the person actually in the bed to be able to control the settings. When I wake up at three in the morning and I can't sleep and I want to sit up and read my book, in order to set the mattress to not bottom out, I have to wake up my husband and ask him to fix it for me. That's ridiculous, and I won't do that. So I took off Star for comfort and convenience. Because that is neither comfortable nor convenient. Aside from that, this mattress is everything I could ask for.
