An excellent book. Just what I wanted!
As an elementary school teacher, this is exactly what I was looking for! The written notes for the children are informative and interesting, and beautifully laid out. The step by step instructions make it easy for the children to follow along to produce really good pieces of art. The exercises in the book help them to develop their own skills. And there is a very wide range of topics, covering just about anything I would ever want to teach. In my opinion, this book is well worth buying. I can recommend it to any teacher who wants to help their children improve their drawing skills, or to anyone who wants to become a better artist themselves.

My 9 year old loves this book!
My 9 year old has been obsessed with this book! It’s really helpful and great for her to follow and copy and she’s been engrossed in it several times. Keeps her away from her devices!! Excellent choice. One of her best Christmas presents.

Brilliant!
Bought this for a Christmas gift for my friend's daughter who loves art and is 10 years old. Looking through it, I found it hard to pack, I wanted to keep it! Really lovely art book, lots of clever ideas and useful information. I highly recommend it to anyone who would like to improve their drawing.

Lots of projects
Bought this book for ideas, it’s full of ideas but I’ve found there’s no substitute for practice. Great book though.

Overpriced and very regulated approach
I downloaded this book when it was on offer as a freebie, so I'm happy with the cost, but I'd be less happy if I'd paid the current price (£12 at time of writing). I think that's a bit steep. As for content, I had no particular need. I sketch for fun and have little talent and no training. So I was interested in something which might help me improve in a few basics. The book is laid out in lesson format using a 'know, understand, do' approach. It claims to encourage students to learn, but in the teachers aid notes, I was surprised that the author suggests allowing tracing. Doesn't seem to me to be the best way to learn, but what do I know?I found the very basic stuff useful; shading techniques, hatching, blending etc and there are some helpful explanations about how to achieve a particular effect. It's also useful to increase your art terminology vocabulary if, like me, you know little. But I'm not keen on the format or the exercises which seemed very prescriptive. I've improved my understanding of how to draw and shade shapes and I've pick and mixed bits from a few chapters. So all in all, it's been helpful and it cost me nothing. I'd have dropped a star for value if I'd paid for it as its overpriced in my opinion.
