I researched weighted blankets for over a year before deciding to take the plunge. I chose the Mela as it was rated The Best Buy by many independent review sites.I was swayed by the premise of ‘alleviating joint/arthritis pain and restless leg syndrome’ as I suffer from early onset chronic lumbar, thoracic and hip dysplasia (also had 2 recent hip replacements)- the blanket arrived and the presentation is beautiful, packaged in a lovely box with lots of helpful leaflets and info.The blanket itself is plush, luxurious and a pleasing shade of grey. The raised dots look especially nice against the existing duvet.It’s quite difficult to get on the bed due to the weight, but with a hefty throw onto the mattress, it just needs straightening into place.I ordered the king size for a double duvet and laid it width ways (so that it covered me from chest to feet - I’m only 5ft 4) I ordered the 7kg as I am 69kg so this is around 10% as advised.The first night - I lasted for an hour under the blanket (on top of the summer duvet) but unfortunately it was just too heavy and was causing pain in my lower back (if I lay on my front) and in my hips (if I lay on my side) I was so disappointed. :-(My friend advised me to try again - so the next night I did - but only lasted 30 mins before having to remove the blanket - so had no choice but to return as it is just not suitable for me personally.I have no doubt that this blanket is an amazing, sleep/relaxation/comfort aid for someone with no hip replacements or medical conditions - but for me personally, it wasn’t suitable.I would recommend the blanket to friends and family as it is a beautiful, well made item.The customer service team at Mela are also amazing and respond to emails and queries very very quickly. I'm in the 60-70kg range and I wondered about getting the 9kg one so it's definitely heavy but I'm really glad I went for the 7kg one, roughly 10% of my weight. It's really nice and heavy and 9kg would have definitely been too heavy to be comfortable.It's so soft and beautiful and it looks really nice! It definitely helps to calm down and sleep better, it's extremely warm though but they do offer cotton covers!It's not a full UK king size but you don't want to be sharing it with a partner anyway because then it doesn't work properly. It's the perfect size for one person.I originally bought one and then bought a second one partly due to the amazing quality but mainly due to the exceptional customer service given by customer care manager Rebecca Lewis, her service and kindness definitely got me to buy a second one for my partner and I'm glad I did!

I feel like I've been buried alive. Mind you, I have doubled up by folding it over for a lounge on my sofa. Yet to use it for a night's kip but tried laying under it on my bed. It reminded me of a time, circa 1994, when I fell asleep under the weight of multiple winter coats at a house party. Cozy and with coma-like sleep. I've high hopes for its anti-insomniac properties.I read a review that said it took them an hour to put the cover on and secure it in place. Presumably, they did this blindfolded to take THAT long. There's detailed, step by step instructions with pictures. So who knows how they managed to get flustered enough to admit that in a review. Took me about 10 minutes from opening the box to completion.Sizewise it just about covers the width of my double and hangs off the end (bought the king-size 7kg after reading gripes about the size). I swapped it round and it then falls nicely over the side but is a bit too short to cover the last few inches at the feet end. I'm 5ft 7 so it doesn't matter.All in all I'm happy with it. Good quality, nice and soft. Feels luxurious and not the cheap tat masquerading as quality goods that generally turns up from Amazon. It was worth the nearly 70 quid I forked out for it.

I have suffered from sleep problems for a long time - and while the blanket wont alleviate all of your problems, it certainly helps!You know that feeling when you've managed to tuck yourself into the duvet nice and tight? Its like that all the time!Despite being a heavy blanket, the soft exterior makes the blanket feel deceptively light once you are under it (you might not associate heaviness with soft touch).Do bear in mind that the sizes listed are not quite met - for instance my Kingsize Blanket does not quite cover the top of my kingsize mattress. This isn't so much of a problem if you are combining this with normal duvets, however. if you are looking to sue this as a duvet replacement I would recommend being a size up. I would recommendat least a king-size if two people will be sleeping underneath.Blanket is quiet, barely a hint that its lined with bead filled pockets. Lifting it can be difficult, and it isn't the most mobile blanket - but that should be relatively obvious bearing in mind its a weighted blanket!Wouldn't recommend letting pets on this one, I could easily foresee little paws and claws tearing the fabric.Very happy with this purchase, would recommend to anyone looking to help ease their sleeping problems, however bear in mind this is not a one-stop fix - best thing I can recommend is healthy eating and exercise (unfortunately!)
