Pretty cool
Famous quality! Interesting kit. Wish I would have gotten the special edition because it has a transparent piece to show aircraft inside. Still an aircraft is visible from the front of hangar and there is one to place on catapult. I recommend because of the unique subject!

Good kit by Tamiya
A nice kit with some really small parts. Keep a flashlight handy in case one falls on the floor. I would say that this is a level three kit. Not for a beginner. One plus is that the hull comes prepainted. Use Tamiya extra thin cement. Super glue for the photo etched parts if you use them. I thought the decals were of good quality and went on well. I built it in eight hours. Paint the parts first. I had painted them the previous day. The instructions are a bit hard to interpret on some steps. Tweezers a must. As with any model that you want to be proud of, take your time. The parts fit is very good with no flash. I did not use all of the parts that come with the kit.

Outstanding historical model
I am an avid 1/350 scale modeler of naval vessels. This class of submarine, though it never completed any mission it was designed for, was built, commissioned, and sent forth and represented an amazing leap in technology at the time. A very historical ship and Tamiya, as always, does a magnificent job with this model and lots of details so it can be accurately depicted. Highly recommended.

Highly recommended.
A superb rendition of a unique subject. Exquisitely detailed, but will require the Tamiya upgrade detail set to make complete, which mostly consists of photo-etched hand rails etc. when compared to German Type VIIc in same scale (1/350), one can truly appreciate the sheer size of these vesstles. Highly recommended.

Nice overall kit.
The kit is nice however I would like it better if it was a larger scale (i.e. 1/72). Overall, it appears complete and ready to build.

Damaged Model Box
I like Japanese Submarine, theModel it self was not damagedluckily. My mailbox is the same dimension as the Model Box, but shorter in length then the box. The mailman stuffed it in my mailbox. I had to destroy the Model Box to get it. The box has important pictures and information of the Submarine.I am glad the Model was alright.Regards Greg Fryberger

Overpriced
Did not get it by Christmas, great detail but overpriced for the scale. Too bad as the other options were very limited.
