Superb teapot
High quality, well made, attractive, NOT made in China and makes the perfect cup of tea! There are no issues with the handle getting hot and the handle is not hollow, it's just indented on the inside so it appears to be so. If you do think it's hot it's because you are holding the pot wrong and your fingers are actually making contact with the pot itself. I make a pot of tea every morning and looking forward to a long relationship with my 4-cup little Brown Betty!

this is a terrible teapot!
I lost the lid of my beloved, almost 45 year old, truly original brown betty in a butterfinger accident. This teapot seemed like a reasonable replacement. It's the worst teapot I've ever owned! There are 3 major problems. The side handle is far too small, especially when the teapot is full. The top handle on the lid is too wide and "thick waisted" for a good grip, and because the vent hole is on the side, the lid handle remains too hot. There is no interior tea filter, so I both get too many tea leaves in my cup, but also lose tea for continued steeping and cannot easily compost my used tea leaves. The teapot also dribbles on pouring. I've used the teapot for 2 days, and thus don't feel comfortable returning it, but I'll keep ordering "brown betty" teapots until I find one that is functional. Now that I know what does NOT work, I'll not use a new pot until I compare old and new and find a new pot that will work.

Nice Teapot
I purchased this to replace a 30-yr-old Brown Betty that got chipped throughout the years. Although my old Betty is much heavier made, this one does nicely as a replacement. I noticed some negative comments about the "dripping" spout and the "cracked glaze finish" (with photo). I don't know how you folks are pouring your tea but there is really minimal drip from this pot and only when full to the brim. I've never known a teapot to NOT drip a bit. As for the cracked glaze finish...wow! What in the world did you do to that pot to make that happen?? Did you microwave it? Put it in a dishwasher? Put it in a hot oven?? Not experiencing any cracks in the glaze with my pot in normal usage and washing it with hot water. So I would recommend this teapot.

Brown Betty teapots make the best brew.
This product was made in England, and has a very long history of being the very best teapot available. The downside is the outside brown coating tends to crack. This doesn't affect its ability to brew tea. It just doesn't look very pretty. Still, I would use no other teapot.

Wouldn't recommend
I have been drinking tea since my English grandma introduced me to it at age 3. I have had quite a few teapots and currently own a large brown betty that I use for family at our cottage in Canada. This brown betty teapot seems extremely thin walled to what I am use to. After steeping my tea, I like to lift the lid and give the contents a stir with a teaspoon before pouring. On first use, I could hardly remove the lid without burning my fingers, the lid did not want to stay put in the pot even though it was placed correctly. I had to keep my hand on the lid to prevent it from falling into my cup. I was very disappointed and will continue my search for a pot that I will use daily.
